GMTV and Sky News (live) reports so far on TV.
Great news if reports are accurate.
The team should have had this publicity from the start.
Sorry, I tried for irony and missed.
My other interest is Archaeology and frequently parts of the British Museum are closed – reason not enough staff. I overheard a visitor from the USA pleading to get into one gallery but with no luck – he was going home the next day.
So I agree with JEEPMAN, that the RAFM should be able to open all of its galleries when the museum is open.
What is that on the fin?
Reflection of the roundel from the starboard wing? :diablo:
Great news – man!
Thought I heard a loud jet that day. 🙂
At last the RAFM seems to have got itself sorted out with respect to the G-W hanger.
Now I’ll have to make a more planned visit and not base such around some retail therapy down at that other H place.
“How do I get to H?” “Just follow the yellow bags sir!” 😉
By the way what’s happening with the gallery in the main hall? When I tried for a look recently it was closed, and not much evidence of any exhibits up there either.
Who’s idea is it to hang aircraft aloft like an knocked together Airfix kit?
If the aircraft is not airworthy one should be able to see it up close and on its wheels too.
Great book, yes indeed.
Hope to get it signed by as many of the Black Buck crew members as possible.
I read the PPRUNE thread on the “star” of the book – ‘607 herself, very worrying posts about ‘607’s condition.
Something must be done to preserve her – soon.
I was fortunate enough to be at Salisbury Hall for the display by RR299 and RS712 together.
Absolutely wonderful.
Yes it was, I was there too – when was it?
I wonder if there is any footage of that event as I seem to remember some low flying and some fine formation flying of the pair?
RS712 had droptanks fitted if I remember correctly.
Mosquitos are my favourite aircraft and I remember being shocked on watching the RR299 news item. Many times the only reason I would go to some airshows was for the Mosquito and the wonderful displays performed by the crew.
Let’s hope we will enjoy the sight and sound of an airbourne Mosquito again – soon.
wow – all aircraft are meant to fly!
Too right three, two, one Go! 😎
I would like to have been there, but there are (hopefully) two weekends of fast taxi at Southend. No nose lifting though.
GWR Castle Class locomotives…
5071 Spitfire ,5072 Hurricane , 5073 Blenheim, 5074 Hampden
5075 Wellington , 5076 Gladiator , 5077 Fairey Battle ,5078 Beaufort,
5079 Lysander, 5080 Defiant (Preserved), 5081 Lockheed Hudson,
5082 Swordfish
Don’t forget the new build A1 pacific “Tornado”.
Named after a certain RAF jet… 😀
Will the aircraft be undercover?
I rather enjoyed this show; what with it being a mini-legends towards the end. I decided to video and felt I needed a “Second Unit” for the missed footage.
As with most Duxford displays flying was restricted to the afternoon and only for a short time at that. Why can’t they use some of the morning for displays? Say for the non-landing acts?
USAF – shall we have a whip-round for a GPS and a map? Surprised the KC-135 didn’t get a “ticket” from the safety committee for over flying the crowd, but at least they found Duxford. What happened to the F-15s I thought they were to make another appearance?
Aerostars- great team. Guess the one early departure to North Weald was to line up the beers in The Squadron. :diablo:
Matadors – gasps from the crowd all around me for some of the manoeuvres.
What happened to the meteor? I was looking forward to that.
Shame people seem to leave early, in fact before even the final act had finished. They missed the fly past of the photoship T-6, Spitfire and Hurricane.
As most of the action seemed to taking place near Hanger One did the Tank-Bank relocate to the other end?
Hi Albert,
My father has a large collection of aviation related films, documentaries etc on VHS cassettes including every episode of ‘pIece of Cake’ and every episode bar one of ‘Airline’ .
I’d have to go through his collection to see exactly what there is ,but we are going to transfer most of the collection from VHS to DVD to try and preserve them as the VHS cassettes are getting old now.Steve
I would like to digitise my VHS collection – any tips (by PM) would be welcome.
However how can something that isnt British fit in with Criteria 1? As I see it the Criteria are meant to help preserve essential parts of British history, the B-17 is an essential part of the History of the Word IMHO.
As a memorial however, it is very important.
“Sally B” is of course meant to be a flying memorial.
As for British history what about the social effect of having thousands of Americans “Over here” fighting a war? You only have to look at the glass work memorial at Duxford.
The Waverley Criteria could be used for “Sally B” too. IMHO
The steam locomotive “Flying Scotsman” had an export restriction placed on it.
So if the following still holds here are the criteria to use.
Quote
The Waverley Criteria
1. Is it so closely connected with our history and national life that its
departure would be a misfortune?
2. Is it of outstanding aesthetic importance?
3. Is it of outstanding significance for the study of some particular
branch of art, learning or history?
Quote ends
I think the above three are true for a Mosquito that is potentially the only airworthy example in the UK.
so if the Criteria are still enforceable then (IMHO) no export licence.
