Odd that the entire BBMF would be grounded. Merlin problems? Although the Dakota is scheduled to display this weekend
People mistakenly stating their opinion as fact again.
For what it’s worth I do find some of the criticism incomprehensible. It’s a movie not a documentary. To my albeit limited knowledge there is no perfect war film. The 1958 Dunkirk has numerous errors (who knew the Wehrmacht had Tiger tanks to overrun France?) but I don’t let it detract from it. Seems just a bit petty if you let one films mistakes spoil it for you but then advocate watching another.
Having now seen it. I think as a piece of entertainment it is fantastic. I’ll leave it to other people to pull apart its inaccuracies.
The cameo is a nice nod to a classic war movie much discussed on this forum.
Is that not the Yakfire?
16th July will see it’s public unveiling.
Thanks, nice to hear the growl of a Daimler-Benz again. Hopefully see it somewhere on the airshow circuit this summer.
TE294 looks fantastic, a credit to the many years of hard work that have gone into the project.
A pity the thread has to descend in to another discussion of originality.
yes, I was aware BR 601 was headed this way,, the hurricane caught me by surprise though. I look forward to both. I thought 601 would be here already, heard rumors that it had a small accident though, don’t know the truth behind that.
There was an ‘incident’. But 601 has flown since
It going to Collings would be a treat for me, as I am only an hr. away,, heard they were getting a spitfire too, if they don’t already have it.
That will be Spitfire BR601. You are in for a treat when they both make their way over the pond
OMG they are replacing bits!!!! It’s going to become a replica…

Might as well throw in my twopenn’orth for what it’s worth.
Several decades ago, I found myself in Chicago with a few hours to kill, so went to the Museum to see the genuine BoB Spit there. I have no memory of this visit at all, apart from knowing that it happened. A couple of years ago, I was on the tank bank at Legends, when one of the recent Mk.I rebuilds came over on a curving landing approach. The sight and sound of that, light glinting of its flanks and low enough to see the individual rivets under the wings will stay with me until the day I die.I respect the right of anyone to prefer an untouched original, if such a thing still exists, but I know where my heart lies.
Where is that like button?
As I said previously, why is it only Spitfires which seem to get people’s heckles up.
How much of BBMF’s Lancaster PA474 is original as it rolled off the production line?
There was no great fuss about Hurricane P2902. Any number of P51’s on the circuit? Sally B? ARCO’s Blenheim? The 109E at Biggin?
I for one appreciate the effort and lengths people go so we can have another Spitfire. I certainly would not complain if I got to ride in the back seat.
It only ever seems to be Spitfires that are called replicas or data plate restorations. There were certainly no barbed comments on the P2902 thread.
Most detailed report I have seen
The writer of the series has also denied that the title of the production is The Mighty Eighth
I have just seen the prologue of Dunkirk, the dogfight scene is very well shot. A refreshing change seeing actual aircraft rather than CGI. The Spitfire footage is interwoven with shots from the Yak.
My only disappointment is the appearance of the beach. It looks very clean considering what is supposed to be going on.
