We dont really need 8 more P-3Cs to moniter terrorists escaping from our coastline , they will be useful but even the US knows they will perhaops 10% be used in the War on Terror and 90% used against India

No one is making a fool of anyone, the US administration know very well that any weapons we gain from them will be of great use against ANY enemy, yes, we are using the ongoing operations against Al Quada as a excuse to get more weapons, but what do you expect us to do!? Not ask at all!? Just give up!?

I agree, we should spend more on local production, and in the field of land combat vehicles and naval vessels we have made great strides in this area.

However, as well as trying as much as possible to localise production, we need to ensure our pilots are given the best equipment possible, and right now, that seems to be AMRAAM

No can we end this debate or if you want to continue it, may I suggest we start another trhead!?

This wasn’t the first bomb threat that was received in the last weeks. Twice an Olympics flight was threatend and was also diverted, but hey since it is Israel this time, it is either decided that there is no threat, or that it was wrong to divert it.

We could have let if fly over Gaza 🙂 and parallel to the Egyptian border and then a left turn towards Uvda.

You know Barak, reading Erezs posts and speaking to Israelis I know makes me sympathis with there position at times, then at other times people like you write the above and then I think to myself, my Isreal deserves everything it gets……..

And i dont think within 3 min ANYBODY can Hijack any plane Unless its already hijacked in Lahore(or before that) itself !!!

This is niot the time to nitpick about eventual scenarios, the plane can be hijacked anytime, you are failing to get my piont (weather by mistake or delibirately), my point is that there could very well be some scenarios where a long range missile will be needed. You and I both know that.

Can we now change the subject and end this discussion, ts pointless anyway, irrespective of any US decision, PAF will get SD-10 soon

Now back to IDEAS 2004……..

Well,India can take care of the anything which Comes into its airspace.
India wont put any blaim Pakistan untill and unless
Plane had stopped at one of the Pakistan’s/Afghanistan’s runways before heading to India…….
and Getting back
And to stop terrorist attack u dont need AMRAAMs I think pakistan’ has good Air Defence and well spread Air Bases and can intercept such Planes in time

BVR’s are good idea for use in actual war,and Pakistan sure needs them in case of war but to prevent Terrorist attack…Naaaaah!!

India cannot gurantee that it airspace is invincible.
A hypothetical scenario for you…..

A hijacked plane takes off from Lahore (3 mins flying time to India) and heads towards amritsar (3 mins flying from Pak border), IAF have no time to scamble and Pakistani F-16s with AIM-9s cannot engage in time

You and I know the outrage in India and this forum will be diected towards Pakistan………

The ironic thing is, should the PAF fail to intercept the plane in time, the chances are its target may be in India, of course, if such a thing were to happen, Pakistan woukld be blamed for failing to oprevent the plane crossing into India…………..

And for this Pakistan desperately needs F-16s with AMRAAMS?

Phrozenflame was making the case that American sales of F-16s are required to prevent “a 9-11 type” attack on Pakistan. Can’t the PAF’s current fleet, or, if you’re dismissing it as singularly unable to down a passenger airline, potential future aircraft purchased from guaranteed seller countries like France or China be used for this very purpose? :confused:

Sorry, but I do not see this logic as being able to convince America to sell F-6s to Pakistan.

AMRAAMs, as you are very well aware, will enable us to shoot down an air threat in much less time and at a longer range, of course, it will also help against an Indian aggression

But whats wrong with Pakistan wanting AMRAAM, Indians have already introduced advanced BVR into the region, so there will be no major change to the balance of power in the region

Probably one of the Subs the UK sold Canada in the first place, there were reports by the Canadians of major defects with these. Ironic its now the very same UK forces that are trying to go and save it.

My thoughts go with the Sailors, I hope they will all be OK

No there wasn’t.
First of all, there were planty of Israelis on that plane too.
Second of all, the checks we do for passangers going out of Israel are much more serious than the checks that are made in other countries. El-Al is the safest airliner in the world. There shouldn’t be any reason why we will be forced to land because of a suspected security failure.
And because unfortunately we are a country that has years of experience with terror, I think that we will understand if some country wouldn’t permit an El-Al plane to land in it because of a terror alert.

Thats fair enough I guess….

Well, obviously the Isrealis had no intention of helping a plan in distress, what if it was an El Al Airliner with 300 Isrealis that was refused permission to land in France or Germany? I think there would have been a different reaction then…..

and if he was low on fuel or comms did not work!? 300+ people dead!? Would you still put smilies on your post!?

“Way to go Isreal”!? Wow, your love of that country is intense

Personally, I prefered the RAFs approach when confronted with a similiar problem,

a couple of Tornado F3s escorted an Olympic Airways airliner down, the plane was searched, nothing was found and the flight continued….no jet fighter threatened to shoot down a civilian airliner then!

Heavy fighters are definately the way ahead

Fighters like Eurofighter, SU-30 et el have the capability to carry both long range air to air armament, PGMS, designators and fuel tanks AND the ability/software to switch roles in an instant, the only “lightweight” fighters that can carry similar loads, at similar ranges and switch roles in mid air are F-16I/E/Fs, which are virtually “Heavy” fighters anyway…..
