Sorry, couldn’t resist that, I agree on both counts actually. I haven’t seen the DH-9 in the flesh yet, but from the photos I’ve seen it looks like a lovely machine.
For me, just wonderful engineering.
The one in the background I guess….. :p:D
Plenty of evidence of Seb Davey’s day job on his Twitter feed: https://twitter.com/Seb_Lanc99 And some nice photos too.
Whack a PT-6 on the front of the Lizzie and you’d have a great bushplane!
Are you sure? More of an accident waiting to happen I’d say. A PT-6 probably provides more torque and a quicker response, which means that you need to be even quicker on the rudder and elevator trim. Not a good idea on a Lizzie if you ask me! Oh well, good thing it’s only hypothetical…;)
It was nicknamed ‘Operation Bolero II’. The original operation Bolero was the programme that saw various US built fighters and bombers flying across the North Atlantic to fight in the European theatre. ‘Glacier Girl’ was part of that but ended up on the Greenland icecap along with the rest of the P-38s and the B-17s in her flight. The plan was for her to finally complete that journey and end up in the UK. Only Miss Velma completed this second journey though, Glacier Girl ran into engine trouble just after take off from Goose Bay.
Last summer, P-51 ‘Berlin Express’ used this same set of droptanks for its flight to Duxford.
That first photo looks like a Catalina front turret to me.
I still can’t afford it! 10 points for creativity though 😀
I e-mailed you some photos this morning Shadowrichards. I hope they will be good enough.
I have photographed both in the two museums, but I’d have to check if they are of sufficient quality. The photo below is the best I can do for the one in Hendon, I’m sure someone else will have something better. I’ll check the other one later today once I get back home.

The ‘second fuselage at Brooklands’ is a walkthrough exhibit that incorporates some bits of leftover material and some new-built bits but is nowhere near a complete fuselage. It dates back to the original restoration of R for Robert.

Looks like the 18mm end of a 18-200mm lens on a Sony camera. Provides an interesting perspective indeed!
I was just looking at this video the other day, a nice flight on one of the Ju-Air Ju52s.
Seeing as it is the only genuine two-seater Buchon in airworthy state available, I guess they can set the price wherever they want.
They can stop the search for her car: http://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-43217133
