It is indeed ex-HD346 NO-V ‘Lotys II’ which has been operated by the Dukes since 1990 (25 years ago!)

Here is the same B-24 in the summer of 2000. When compared to Duxman’s shot from 2002 a lot was done in those years!

Aaahhh, helicopters. I thought it would be something different from reading the topic title 😉

The Manston DC-8 was scrapped, the plans to move it to Lelystad fell through. Sad in a way as it was the last remaining original KLM DC-8 I think.

Just a wild guess but haven’t they tried mounting a probe on the nose of that Lancaster to act as a receiver? Perhaps it was felt that the pilot would have a better view of this during refueling operations. I may have dreamt this up though….

A very enjoyable feature. The only comment I’d like to add is that the VC10 photo on page 49 shows G-ASGD, not G-ASGO as the caption states.

I hope the WW1 aircraft (at least) are not left outside while the work is carried out.

That is not the plan. The Flight Shed annexe will be built during the first phase of the project. This will then be used to house the aircraft from the Wellington hangar during the refurbishment/move. Not all the aircraft will fit inside but at least the fragile items will be safe and under cover during the big move.

It’s a wooded area between the acoustics building (where the Concorde sim is) and the finishing straight. There are some vehicles parked there and assorted bits but nothing structural. The area where the Flight Shed will be built is an open grass area which is significantly lower than the finishing straight (at that point) which will conveniently enable the Flight Shed to have two floors with the top one opening onto the finishing straight.

Just had a look at Google maps, the Bus museum is not present on the Earth photos that are currently in use there.

Don’t be fooled by the ‘London Bus Museum’ legend at the bottom. This museum is located above the acoustics building (where the caravans and containers are in this shot) which can be seen just above the Concorde. The hangar will be located to the right of this acoustics building and the flight shed between the hangar and the old circuit. Concorde is now pointing in the other direction and is located further left.

Aahh, I just checked and noticed that a gallery which specialises in this type of stuff only mentions the painting’s title and an aircraft type. Nothing about which particular organisation was involved. Don’t know if that’s typical but it clears up one of my puzzles.

This grant is in support of a refurbishment and move of the Wellington hangar which will clear the original finishing straight. Also a new annexe will be built (the Flight Shed) which will house some of the aircraft from the Wellington hangar. The hangar itself will become the Brooklands Aircraft Factory exhibit which will show how aircraft were built at the site.

Just wondering (don’t think I’ve seen it on the thread yet): What’s the GAVA‘s position on this? How do galleries selling prints of paintings deal with this situation? Are they knocking on their doors demanding that these prints are taken off the market?

Would love to find the site again Martin! The above is the old link which you will see is now a Chinese site. Following Archer’s excellent advice, all I get is ‘not available for search due to some BOT’. Don’t know where to go from here. I would guess that the original webmaster has passed or moved on and the bills were not paid, so the site has lapsed.

I had a try as well, but got the same result. That means that the original webmaster disabled automated searches of the site at some point. A shame as the Wayback Machine has loads of interesting data in it.

If you know the address, then you could try the Wayback Machine: https://archive.org/web/
Just enter the URL and you’ll be able to check whether a snapshot of the site has been saved there.

Yes, I was there. Seat 19E, still have the ticket. Also have a certificate to prove it, signed by all the flight crew. Captain’s name was Kelly, can’t read half the rest.

I just finished Graham Simons’ book about the Comet and the last flight is mentioned in there with the following crew: Captain John Kelly, Captain Simon Searle as co-pilot, Flight Engineer Gordon Moores.
