The main runway at Brooklands isn’t there anymore. There is a small strip, but AFAIK it was only used once, to get the Vimy replica to the museum (and by a Piper Cub a couple of weeks prior to that, it was the same pilot, he wanted to familiarise himself with the strip). See this video:

As for the Vanguard, the engines haven’t been run much lately due to some starter problems, but the intention is to have them running again in the near future.

Edit: I thought we had a topic on this not too long ago, but I cannot find it anymore. The search only turns up stuff from 2005 and before. Tech issues perhaps?

Well…. I’m not going to argue the point in favour of Flevoland, I cannot think of anything else either.

It is good to hear that some plans are being set in motion. Up until today it was all quiet and that was not what I wanted to hear. Let’s hope for a positive outcome now!

I must say though I was amazed at the high number of paid staff they employed, maybe they were being a bit too big?

You may have a point there, I always thought that with the restrictions in space that they had at Schiphol lifted, they were now able the expand up to their full potential at Lelystad. There were many plans (there was a DC-8 on its way to the museum too AFAIK) and lots of volunteers and enthusiasts but apparently the financial backing wasn’t there. One story is that the profits they were expecting from large corporate events at the museum didn’t materialise. Also that the main backers (KLM and Schiphol) balked at forking over more funds just to keep the museum open.

Personally I’m surprised that there has been so little media coverage of the situation and no political attention at all. Apparently there is no interest in our Dutch aviation heritage! 🙁

Don McBrearty was apparently the name of the director of the flick where the replica was severely damaged. I mention it (thanks to imdb) so that forumites can avoid any other films they find him connected with.

We could argue that it’s now truly a replica, having undergone the same treatment as the original Arrow…;)

Don’t forget the full size replica built in Canada by one man, he started with the cockpit, thought might as well do the fuselage etc and in the end built the whole thing, it took him years as a labour of love..a film company borrowed it to make a film about the Arrow and without his permission which would never of been given cut it up in a final act of vandalism, as was done to the real thing….. the owner was gutted and I still don’t know the outcome……. I would have if I had my way made the Film Company proffessionally rebuild it for the owner, then destroy all their film stocks of it…

Tony, that’s the one I linked to in post #2 above.

There appears to be a second full-scale replica in storage at the Reynolds-Alberta Museum: http://www.avroarrow.org/AvroArrow/replica.html

    It’s in this database: http://www.ae.illinois.edu/m-selig/ads/coord_database.html#C

This is the largest database for aerofoil data that I know of. Hope it helps, you may need to get the data into a different format but AFAIK they’re text files and thus easily modified. It might also be necessary to plot the points one by one into your CAD program, a bit of a struggle, but from there you can scale to whatever you need.

That’s Mr. Weeks’ stash right? Didn’t look as organised when I saw it in 2002 though.
