The free Dutch newspaper Metro placed a nice picture of the rescue operation. They had wonderful background news “The pilot was the sole survivor of the air disaster”.

Typical Dutch reporting. But the photo was interesting to see at least, here it is.

… and pointless, too, now that lovely tail has been trashed. Just like any other fuselage, really.
    A lost opportunity, Brooklands.

I wouldn’t call it that. Brooklands had the option of saving nothing, or the fuselage. The tail, wings, undercarriage etc. were too far gone for saving (unless of course a couple of million pounds would have appeared out of thin air, but that didn’t happen).

Having the fuselage preserved is ‘as good as it gets’ to quote the Jack Nickelson movie. I’d rather be thankful for that instead of wishing for things that were not possible.

If all has gone well then the complete fuselage of G-ARVM should by now have arrived at the Brooklands Museum. These photos were taken yesterday and show the arrival on thursday, and unloading of the forward section. The rear section should have arrived by now.

The fuselage has been sectioned by dismantling an old manufacturing joint, the first time this has been done on a VC10. Once put back together again the fuselage will be structurally complete and in original state.

    More to follow.

The Brooklands cockpit section is quite possibly not gutted. More likely to never have been fitted out in the first place like XR222 at Duxford.

As far as I know the cockpit section at Brooklands was a test item, perhaps for pressurization tests?

Fokker Aircraft used Roman numerals up until the 1934 F.XXXVI which is quite a mouthful. Therefore the system reverted to Arabic numerals after WWII. Another interesting designation is the F.XVIII.

What does this add to the discussion? Not much to be honest, but there are some interesting images on the webpages linked to above 😀

From the background of that photo I would say that it was taken at Le Bourget, Paris. F-WTSS is the first Concorde prototype, now in the Musee de l’air at Le Bourget and if my memory is correct they also have a Hansa Jet and Dassault Falcon there. When I visited the Concorde was inside a relatively new building so you can get a rough ‘no later than’ date from the moment they moved her inside.

Edit: my memory wasn’t failing, on the attached still from Google Earth you can see both the Hansa Jet and the Dassault with the distinctive red engine nacelles. The Concorde prototype is inside the building at the center of the image.

Strewth!! I’ve seen it before but it never fails to impress! 😮

Did it touch or didn’t it??

Any ideas on who, what, where, when????

Have a look at this thread here, it shows some stills from that Yak video as well: http://forum.keypublishing.co.uk/showthread.php?t=25721

I think I missed something…. such as which one and where (from Mark12’s reply I’m deducing that the paintwork is already dry)?

Disregard the above. Search function and a helpful forum member has cleared up the fog & confusion!

Back on topic: I’ve always liked MK732 as ‘H-25’ so here’s a photo.

A Dutch liveried two seater?? That is something I would appreciate! The question is, will it be in RAF Camo with Dutch roundels and numbers as delivered, the all-over silver with black anti-glare similar to what MK732 now wears or perhaps the all-over orange example as operated by Schreiner as a target-tug?

My favourite would be the first option. Somehow I find that the overall silver scheme becomes a bit boring to my eyes, but perhaps that’s because we now have a Spitfire, Beech 18 and Catalina flying around in it over here.

The best resource for Dutch Spitfire schemes is Harry v/d Meer’s book as mentioned by Mark12 above. I’ve got my copy stashed away somewhere, might get it out today or tomorrow

As Archer said (and a good morning to him!!), staffing levels can alter which aircraft are open.

It wasn’t me who said that, but good morning to you too Nik!

You could always try to give the museum a ring before you go, they’ll be able to tell you on which days which airliners tend to be open. Contact details here: http://www.brooklandsmuseum.com

Can you elaborate on what the problem is exactly? I don’t see many overexposed areas in that photo, perhaps a bit on the nose of the aircraft.

As for how to set the F-number on the D50, have you looked in the manual yet?

Yes it is, when posting click on the ‘manage attachments’ button below, then click ‘browse’ to select a JPG file (several can be attached to one post) then click ‘upload’ at the bottom of that dialog. The software will then create the thumbnail for you.

Feel free to try it in this thread.

I think that there is just one Phantom in private hands, the Collins Foundation example. As for Starfighters, there is a display team with at least two aircraft (The Starfighters ) but I think that there may be more examples around in the US. I’m sure someone more knowledgable than me will be able to provide a complete answer.

Here is the late Paul Morgan’s G-EEMV ‘Baby Gorilla’. I’ve read somewhere that the wreckage of this aircraft is still around and might be used in a restoration project somewhere (IIRC) so I guess this possibly qualifies it for this list.

Edit: and another one from my collection, taken just a month or two ago at the FAA museum at RNAS Yeovilton. Sea Fury WJ231.
