VC10 ZD241 was spotted over the Solent today, apparently she flew in formation with two Jaguars.
Opening up a few inspection panels on a B-25 wing, we once found the remains of a remote compass (can’t remember what it’s called now but you know the wire-wound ring, split in three that is used on slaved heading gyro’s?). Now these remains were not properly attached to the wing structure, but were happily bouncing about inside the wing tip, and had been like that for a while probably!
Melvyn, the more I see/read about the Rearwin, the more impressive the story gets. Going back to the ‘make your own Rearwin’ cover that I once constructed, have you thought about a book like that? I’m sure that the story would be of interest to some, and the tips valuable to anyone connected to or interested in restoration.
… to get a free copy of trade-a-plane …
Selling already?? 😀
I’m not flying anywhere this weekend, that is, not flying myself. KLM will fly me to Barcelona and back though!
Interesting topic.
VC10 XV105 is named in honour of Captain Albert Ball VC, and still flies with 10 Sqn, soon to be 101 Sqn.

Yes, leaving next Thursday, back on Monday evening. I don’t know if I’ll have time to spare on aviation related sightseeing, but I don’t want to come back and find out I missed something significant 😎
Can you offer some more info on PAC?
Dreadnought?
I guess you mean the ones in use at the NLC in Hoofddorp. (Actually the school is now called ‘ROC Amsterdam Airport’ or something like that)
Have a look on this site for info, I don’t have any recent photos though, the one below was taken in 1993 when the school was still in The Hague:

(edited to allow brain engagement and photo attachment 😎 )
On the 12th she was on the other side of the North Sea to act as an opener for the Red Bull Airrace in Rotterdam. Unfortunately the surroundings forced a rather high pass but it was good to see her anyway!
There may be something with his eyesight that prevents him from getting a JAA CPL, but which is not restricting enough to prevent him getting an FAA CPL. Just guessing of course.
“I seem to have lost a Chipmunk…. has anybody seen a Chipmunk around here somewhere???” 😉
Wonderful pictures! A question for someone more knowledgable: are those variable pitch props? I know that they didn’t have those with the earlier Chevy/BMW engines. Why the change?
PS: This is not a toy ! 😮 This is a venerable Mitchell ! 😡
Don’t worry! I know!
Congratulations!!
Have fun with the new toy, and don’t forget to post a lot of photos here!
Getting hit in the head by a prop hanging on the front of TFC’s B25 at Alconbury in ’90. Part of the “pull it thru 12 blades” pre start malarky & some pillock couldn’t count. As I turned around to walk away he pulled it thru one more blade… CLANG!! I still have the scar.
You also learned that day that the twelfth blade should be left pointing upward! 😀
Looks like a gear lock to me. DC-3 downlock mechanism??
