That’s a work of art Mike! Do you offer flights? I’d love a go.

I’m happy for any forumite to come have a play, as long as i get a bit of notice, evenings and weekends are best. I’m in sunny (?) South Manchester, just round the corner from the Avro Heritage Museum, so if ever passing just PM me; there’s no charge as I’m happy to see my toy in action.

Cheers,
Mike

This is N-202 my ex-Dutch Hawker Hunter F6 cockpit. Being somewhat truncated, existing as a flat bottomed section from the front cockpit bulkhead to just behind the end of the windscreen, has not stopped me putting her to good use. Restored over the last 10 years, I’ve spent the last 2 years converting her into a flight sim with fully working instruments, curved screen visuals and subtle motion cues; all of which get me as close to flying a real Hunter as I can and for a fraction of the cost!

Here’s a quick taster of N-202 in action (I just need an ex-Hunter pilot to show me how to fly properly )

Cheers,

Anyone know what the red painted aircraft is with serial? and the yellow painted object, shackleton(?)

The red aircraft is a Northop KD2R-5 drone, http://www.wmof.com/kd2r5.htm, first flew in 1947.

Correct, that’s my ex-Dutch Hunter F6, N-202; in the remnants of her “007 – Octopussy” paint scheme.

Paternal grandfather – Auxiliary fireman following the blitz, then joined the RAF when called up. Served in Balloon command and looked after Starfish sites. I remember being entertained by tales of dummy aircraft, oil fires and lights set in wooden blocks to simulate a vehicle convoy as a kid, I ‘d love to be able to ask him more! Towards the end of the war he served out of Calshot on the air/sea rescue boats.

Maternal grandfather – Served in the Royal Artillery on the anti-aircraft guns. He always joked to have shot down more allied aircraft than the luftwaffe!

Great Aunt – ran a section in the Naval hut at Bletchley Park for a time; she never spoke about it and I remember her always with a crossword to hand.

Great thread, amazing the contribution made by normal people during extraordinary times!

I take it this was a flypast for those “in the know”. I thought it might come this way en-route to Southport but could find out nothing at all. Why was it so difficult to find out its routing?
I would loved to have seen it fly over the place I worked for 23 years but sadly no. Again.
Funny way of trying to get public support.

I was tipped of by the father-in-law who heard rumour at a car-boot this morning … a quick google search found reference on a Poynton/Woodford community forum – I’ve no idea how everyone else found out but the Woodford end of the runway was quiet busy!

According to the Vulcan to the Sky’s website they don’t publish routes due to the draw of the aircraft and associated issues with getting public liability insurance, police approval etc.

My offering of her departing over the Avro Golf Course.

When she left we were then treated to a brief display by a 20′ wingspan remote controlled model of XH558 in the old anti flash white scheme… Awesome.

Apologies if I’ve got the wrong end of the stick, but is this advertising?

This item and Aeroparks previous post on this thread are all for the same E-bay seller who by coincidence also lives in Sheffield!

I thought this sort of thing was banned on this forum.

Courtesy of today’s Manchester Evening News –

http://menmedia.co.uk/manchestereveningnews/news/business/s/1468479_jcb-heir-acquires-bae-woodford-for-100m

In summary –
Avro hopes to convert the south of the site into a film studio, while the north side would be used for housing. The runway will be retained and other leisure facilities it is planning include an equestrian centre and classic car showroom.
I drive past every day and as a local resident I don’t think I’ve much need of an equestrian centre or classic car showroom! No mention as to why they’re keeping the runway, unless some of the more affluent Cheshire sect plan to fly-in to use these new facilities!

Mike

PS – Affordable housing? If you live down the road in Alderley Edge then £2M is affordable!

Lovely Sea Venom, anyone know its full serial?

Hi Pagen,

Thanks for the compliment, the Sea Venom is XG692

This aircraft served with both 750 and 891 Sqns during her time with the Fleet Air Arm and wore the following side numbers and tail codes.
750 sqn (1968-1970 & Lossiemouth) – Side No. 668, Tail code LM
891 sqn (1958-1960 on HMS Centaur) – Side No. 444, Tail code C
We’ve never seen any photos of this aircraft in service, so if anyone has any photos of her wearing any of these side numbers we’d love to hear from you.

Cheers,
XG692

Wow!

A Hunter cockpit rear bulkhead, if only I’d known about that a year ago I wouldn’t have remanufactured one for WN957 (http://www.wn957.webs.com) 😎

Now if I was feeling brave I could always consider attaching it to the rear of N-202
