It surprises me that two TCAS equipped aircraft were able to collide, even in an area that might have limited ATC. Aircraft equipped with TCAS have collided before, the collision between a DHL 757-200PF and a Bashkirian Airlines TU-154 over Ueberlingen, Germany in 2002 was as a result in a misunderstanding with TCAS and ATC instructions. Until we receive more definate information on this, we cannot be sure if it was a similar situation etc… Let’s hope that they’re found soon.

Thai Airways is government controlled as far as I’m aware.

I asked a family friend, who is a FE on the 747-300 for Qantas, about this a few years ago, and he told me that he is trained to actually be able to land the aircraft from both seats and basically be an acting FO.

great shots there mate still no ryanair 737s with winglets yet

Knowing Mr Leary, even though he knows the winglets would save him money on fuel usage, it would therefore cost money to have them installed. 🙂 Fantastic shots, especially the Thomsonfly 737 (It should still be in Brittannia colours 🙁 ).

And today, I had 2 hours to hate an airport 😀

Try working at one! I’m now working at the Quarantine line at Sydney Airport.

Flying in the fifties and early sixties in the piston era, now that was an experience!!!!

If only I was around then!

Fantastic pic Ren! I love the retro era of the jet airliners. Now those were the days when flying was trully an experience. It’s a shame that air travel today has turned into a cost-cutting, ‘bus’ service.

Well done him, but he’s an Oz, so can he use the title anyway?

I assume Rod Eddington is now a British citizen then? I too didn’t think ‘foreigners’ could be knighted

Yes he can be Knighted and can have the title ‘Sir’ in front of his name as Australia is still part of the British Commonwealth. Ever since the signing of the Australia Act in 1986, Australians can’t be Knighted for services to Australia (You get the Order of Australia instead), but can still be Knighted for services in the UK and still be recognised as ‘Sir’ or ‘Dame’ in Australia or any other British Commonwealth country (Like Canada, Fiji, New Zealand, etc…). There are still people in Australia who are addressed as ‘Sir’ (Former Governor-General and High Court Judge Sir William Dean), but unfortunately these people are becoming rare. Hope this answers some questions.

Heres me during a trip from Melbourne back to Sydney. Not the best quality, but it was too big, and had to crop most of it out.

I completed my Australian CPL/MECIR last year, but unfortunately nothing has been forthcoming from my applications, but I believe persistance pays. I’ve also applied to QANTAS for dispatcher, but was turned down. I’m looking at cabin crew with QF or EK to get my ‘foot in the door’ and to save up the money required to do my JAA conversion as the conditions in General Aviation aren’t exactly of good standard, but like I said, my persistance will hopefully begin to bear fruit one day! All those who are studying at school, all the best and remember that the rewards from the hard work are great!

I received a call from a friend of mine and found out that one of my instructors from flight school was one of the passengers. A shame really, he was a good pilot, instructor, and a fantastic guy. My deepest condolences to the wife of Captain Paul Norris (he wasn’t flying at the time), and the family members of those lost.

The same thing is happening here in Australia. Jetstar advertised flights from Sydney to Avalon for the Avalon Airshow for something like $30 per person (That’s cheap for Australia) and then they quietly mention that there are taxes, fees and surcharges of $40! I think that the Australian govt should bring in laws for including taxes in tickets as it catches alot of people out.
    Just my two cents worth.
