Lufthansa Boeing 737-130 with short engine nacelles
Steve Aubury has a nice shot of D-ABEA on abpic at Heathrow in 1969 with, I think, D-ABEB behind
I suspect it was ex Air Trader (a Swedish Company) see #584 in

[QUOTE=nigelrob;1870977]Another shot from Luton, this time Vickers Vanguard G-AYFN of Invicta Airlines. Which airline used this colour scheme?
Boeing revived the 727 and 737 programs in the early seventies with ADV variants (more power, more payload/range) according to an ‘Air and Space’ mag article at the end of the seventies Unducted Fans were thought to be the next ‘thing’ and the CFM56 re-engined 737 (now the ‘737 classic’) was only expected to sell a few hundred until Unducted Fan types took over 🙂
VeeOne’s thread on the 737-100 and -200 ‘Initial Model’ was fun

So slow to sell, at one point Boeing considered abandoning the type:eek:
I think Lufthansa were the first in Europe with their short-body -100s, but Britannia were first in the UK (long before BEA/ BA were allowed to buy 737s)
[QUOTE=nigelrob;1870709Thats interesting. Am I right in saying that Britannia were the first airline in Europe to be equipped with 737’s?]
This is probably 1969,could even be the delivery year 1968 for ‘VRL as it has the original build short length engine nacelles Boeing had to lengthen at their cost

A couple from Luton, very early 1970’s. Britannia B737 G-AVRN (I think)
Britannia B737 G-AVRL and Autair BAC 1-11
Lee….It was from the perimeter road by the chicane or S-bend at the eastern end of LAP North tarmac….as you say prohibited but much used by spotters! A Brownie 127 photograph!
Longshot, that pic of the TWA 1049G must have been taken from a prohibited area! I was turfed out many times by the airport police for venturing 10 feet past the sign to the same spot.
Ah yes , I can see the second one is a Heinkel, now.
Are there any images on the net of the Dornier which came down at seasalter on 13Aug 1940?

Getty bought the Hulton Archive (from the BBC, I think), hence this one which looks like the same aircraft….
