I’ve never photographed there but Manchester scores over Heathrow in accessibility and the rolling background of hills
Sterling 727s in North America
That’s good, Peter, thanks…I just tried Sterling Airways Canada in a Google image search and got some about 28 shots down in this Neil Aird page at Toronto, too but no luck with Miami yet

I wonder if the boom operator knew? 🙂
KC-97s in Europe
The Wisconsin Air Guard KC-97L at Greenham in 1973 did a lively display 🙂

[QUOTE=VeeOne;1855578]I used to run the Airline History Website almost 15 years ago.
Wardair 707 and 727 at Gatwick circa 1968-69. Amazing that they flew a 727 from Canada to Gatwick! BUIA Herald and C47 in background along with another DanAir Ambassador plane.
Hallo Sarah…Talking about the Wardair (and other?) 727s flying pax across the Atlantic on OldJets Yahoo Group, it was mentioned by Bob Bogash that Sterling Airways did likewise with the heaviest gross weight 727-200ADVs that Boeing built. Although I haven’t been able to find any photos of Sterling 727s in North America, courtesy of EricFrikke/Leo Larsen the route flown (in the 80s) was Copenhagen-Keflavik-Bangor(Maine)-Miami and the 6 727s used had 7.5tonnes of extra fuel capacity in 3 belly tanks….do you have any pics at all of the Sterling 727s? By 1986 Sterling had DC-8-63s, this one at Las Palmas, I don’t know if they replaced the 727s to Miami

Nice new set by ‘teddymax ‘(all colour!) gone into Historic Aviation

even the KC-97 is colour….thought it was b&w for a second
Mainly around 1973? What film were you using?
I am enjoying these photographs, guys. But I wonder how long this thread will go on before it reaches some limit in the website?
The other thing that occurred to me was that Longshot’s Gatwick photos would be 100 times more excellent if they were in colour. Especially the CP Air DC8 which would have been so colourful if it were in colour (if you see what I mean?).
As I understand it the photos are hotlinked from hosting sites like photobucket so don’t actually occupy memory space paid for by Key Publishing forum?
Ha….you don’t have to remind me about b&w versus colour, VeeOne!!! 🙂
Welcome to Gatwick 1971
Just run of the mill stuff

Yes but the Comets and the DC3 in the background look appropriate. The Ambassador when in BEA operation flew alongside these types I believe.
Added G-AMAE (ca. May 1970) to the Ambassador pics. They were flying alongside BEA DC-3s and BOAC Comet Is and IVs(briefly)…RAScholefield’s pic of BEA ops from the disused Runway 28L shows a couple, I think (this was when they had to vacate Northolt before LAP Central was ready 🙂

I believe the Ambassador was designed by A E Hagg who had previously designed the iconic Albatross for de Havilland and the Napier Heston ‘Racer’. The Ambassador perhaps would have stayed longer than its six years with BEA but was displaced by the excellent Viscount
