They are making great progress and now have the 4 required flightworthy engines.

Be interesting to get a feel for the size of the task ahead, is it a 1 year or 5 year project?

The plans are for it to be an external exhibit only, a full restoration of the cabin could be completed for a small percentage of the £20M, but there would simply be too many people to do anything other than pay a fiver and walk through, so its a non starter.

Anyone welcomes proposals with what to do with the airframe after BA were shafted by the spanish owners on LHR, but 20M is a **** load of money that would pay for nice hangars at Filton, Brooklands, and go a way for further enhancing the facilities at East fortune and Manchester.

The biggest flaw in the whole proposal is sadly timeframe, to take a Concorde apart and then rebuild it is as we have shown before a 9-12 month process.

I wonder why they have not started to think outside of the box for funding: they can’t use volunteers day to day, well why not change your funding model.

Display the aircraft at Airshows for free, but then have a massive team of volunteers with buckets collecting as the punters leave….or as she is flying.

    RE: The Viking.

The Brooklands Viking has been outside now for some time which is great shame considering all of the good work that was put into the restoration of the aircraft whilst it was in the corner of the ‘Finishing Straight’ hangar.

Actually having the Viking outside has actually allowed a great deal of restoration work to be carried out that would not have been possible inside the confined space of the hangar.

As this work progresses, this should enable the wings to be permanently refitted.

We’ve given them a lifeline, we’ve all chipped in with another handfull of tenners.

Now its time for TVOC to change and adapt to the current economic climate – Time to look very hard at your operation and make savings wherever you can so that the Vulcan does stay in the air for the next 10-15 years, not the next 10-15 months.

I don’t understand why they don’t slim down their operation to match the funds they have.

Recently someone posted their companies house records for 2007 and a fair proportion of their costs are staff costs (over and above the staff costs for the restoration)

Maybe trimming of the organisation and flying goals during these tough times might see them through

The point is that when you consider the other museums in the UK or around the world that would have taken great care of Concorde, one does get annoyed when the people they were given to neglect them somewhat

should the RAF/BBMF take over its operation and fund it to fly an air show season every 2nd year?

Not to state the obvious….gear door misbehaved on Monday, but was not checked fully before Wed to find out what the fault possibly was?

Faulty/mis-aligned microswitch was cause of problem today. Simple to fix, but a little costly in the fact that they will need another test flight to carry out the permit to fly certification work.

Just back from todays events. Really impressive sight. Shame about the Gear door causing problems for the testing, but was a massive bouns for everyone who came out as we were treated to 4 or 5 circuits with a flyover at 100ft each time.

Here are a bunch of pics form today. Going by the amount of people there with proper cameras, I’m sure there will be some really great pics coming up, but I though people might want to get a quick feel for the day so here goes…. Pics are copyright free, do what you want with them…just don’t pass off as your own!

What they did to their forum was a bit of an own goal. A someone who has contribute a few hundred quid to TVOC over the past few years, I’m more than a little missed at being asked to fork out more money to join their Club to access the forum.

They would have been more likely to get another £50 from me getting excited by reading their forum, rather than £24 to join the club.

I’ll probably still pay to join, but think they got this plain wrong. A better option would have been to allow guests to view but not contribute.

BA’s stated goal is for G-BOAb to be displayed down in the Terminal5 areas, but this will not be until after construction has finished. They need to know operationally how the the new ramp and taxi areaa works before a spot is chosen for ‘AB.

Failing all this, she could be shipped to a museum, like G-BOAA (East Fortune) or G-BBDG (Brooklands) were, but there really are not a lot of museums in the UK with the sort of funds required to do this work…even if BA were to help as they did with AA and DG, recently 30K was a struggle for the Bournemouth 1-11, to move Concorde would be a factor of 10 more expensive.

BA made a wise decision in 2003 to keep all their 8 Concordes. They could have scrapped the historically significant G-BBDG and offered G-BOAA to Brookands with G-BOAB going to East Fortune, but you have to agree that they did the right thing. Their biggest problem was 8 Concorde’s but only 7 interiors!
