Regarding the guided fuel tank idea… a bomb is much more effective than any fuel tank… even if that fuel tank were empty. You could pack some HE (100kgs or so) in one end of the tank to give it some bark on impact but in reality most Afs recover their fuel tanks and panel beat them and reuse them. In war time they wouldn’t bother, but as an air to ground munition their effect would be minimal… especially if empty (and if they are not empty you just shortened your flight range by throwing away fuel). If you have to dump fuel tanks because you are being attacked I doubt you will have time to find a target and lase it till impact…

Regarding your laser defence idea… most laser beams used to guide weapons are coded so unless you can match the code it will be ignored (if it weren’t coded then only one laser guided weapon could be used at a time…)

The reason for my fuel tank idea:
lets say you are a Mirage 2000, you are carrying 2 LGB, perhaps 3 Fuel tanks, and 2 AAM.
You are now over your target area, 2 targets are destroyed(your LGB), you see a bunch of enemy bombers (perhaps something important like a B-2/Tu-95)

now : having to strike the same target at another time vs. dropping three fuel tanks, –

im not talking about penetrating bunkers, just hitting soft targets

as for the lasers, had no idea they were coded!!!! how can you code a simple wavelength of light? interesting
