I reckon the ERJ145 will be around for 12-24 months; remember their latest DHC8 order is to replace them, with the last DHC8 being delivered in 2009.

This weeks Flight International suggests that they will have 71/72 DHC8 and 16-20 EMB195s by 2009/10, and talks about them opening up European bases.

Therefore, the current EMB195 order of 14 plus 12 options should now be regarded as 14 order+ 6 options (decision on the options at the end of the year).

When did he change the first “i” in his surname to an “*”? I’d love to see his work pattern – imagine explaining to your bosses “Err..can have I have the next couple of months off as I’m doing a world tour with my band” or “Discovery’s paying me some more money to fly in other aircraft, so I need to have some time off!”

    Cant wait for the 744’s

Hopefully Fireman Sam will have been forewarned that 747s are to go to LPL. One remembers the occasion when a BA 747 tried to land 3 times at MAN but performed go-arounds on each occasion due to GPWS warnings, opted to go to LPL but was informed that they hadn’t got the necessary fire cover so opted to go to NCL!

Laurie Berryman, Emirates Manager UK North and Scotland, said: “We have been delighted with the success of the Glasgow-Dubai route. No other Emirates UK route has ever performed so well in its first three years.

Err..if their MAN service got off to that start, we would be talking a load factor of at least 300% since that service started as a 2 weekly A310 via FRA and then went to 3 weekly! Therefore, don’t read any significance into that statement apart from the initial bit about being delighed with the success!

Tote that barge, lift that bale……..

Thought my alternate thead title was a bit more interesting than replacing a “u” with an “i” :diablo:

Moderators please correct the title !

To what? Perhaps “Boeing wets itself as A350XWB looks pretty good bet to wipe out 777s in airline fleets”?

Wouldn’t be the 1st time Airbus has caused Boeing to do something they either never thought of themselves or were loathe to do.

This extract from this article which expalins a bit futher about the funding that’s received:

“After four years of public sniping, the European Commission and America’s trade officials agreed a deal in 1992 that ruled out production subsidies (the British and German governments wanted that too) and limited refundable launch aid to Airbus to 33% of the development cost of a new model. The Europeans agreed that support would go only to projects likely to repay the money within 17 years; and that the interest rate for the first 25% of refundable loans would be at government rates, but the rest would be at one percentage point above that. Furthermore, repayments would be by a royalty on sales (to continue even after full repayment), rather than only at the end of the loan period.”

    Source: Hansard

Asked by: Andrew Miller (Ellesmere Port & Neston, Labour)

To ask the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry what the cost (a) gross and (b) net after loan repayments was of support by the UK Government to Airbus programmes in each year since 1985.

Answered by: Margaret Hodge (Minister of State (Industry and the Regions), Department of Trade and Industry)

Launch investment is a risk-sharing Government investment in the design and development of civil aerospace projects in the UK. It is not a loan. The investment is repayable at a real rate of return, usually via levies on sales of the product.

The amounts paid to Airbus in launch investment and the amounts received from Airbus in repayment of launch investment in each of the years from 1984-85 to 2005-06 inclusive are set out in the following table, with the net figures (Receipts-Payments) in the final column.

    £ million

    1984-85 0046.5 0000.0 -0046.5

Therefore in that 20 year period, more was repaid than lent. Trying to find more recent figures.

This extract from Hansard 06 Dec 2006

“I entirely agree with the hon. Member for Northavon that Airbus is a success story. I did not recognise his figures and if I am wrong, I will write to him. The figures that I have for launch investment are in the region of £1.2 billion and the return has been around £1.3 billion, of which £530 million went into the A380 and £700 million into the A320, the A330 and the A340.”

    Hansard 25th May 2005

“, repayable launch investment is a sensible decision for the British taxpayer because it is repayable. For example, the Government supplied £250 million in repayable launch investment towards the A320. Repayments from Airbus UK to the Treasury now total more than twice that amount and continue to grow with each aircraft, with royalties being paid.”

I believe there’s an interesting article in tomorrow’s Flight International. Something along the lines of EK in talks for 60 A330s and QR thinking about 40 A330s, plus rumours abound of another 15 A380s for EK which may be announced shortly.

    [QUOTE=J Boyle;1108416

Who would lose the “development costs” funds?
Airbus or it’s various state sponsors who gave them loans repayable if and when the plane makes a profit?

    [/QUOTE]

The money is repayable whether or not the aircaft is making a profit – I’m pretty sure you’ll be able to find some docs on the web about the paying back of the loans. I daresay Airbus would love it if they didn’t have to keep on forking out money on A320s as I’m led to believe that they have repaid substantially more than the amount of money lent to them for that project (err..that sentiment seems rather reminiscent of the company I work for!) .

more Boeing 737-800’s worth a stunning $4 billion with options for a further 70 aircraft as well.

Given their own distasteful comment on how they “raped” Boeing for the 1st lost, I doubt if we’re looking at more than $1.5 bn to be paid by FR.

and if you read a similar thread on airliners.net, you’ll discover that “ordinary” members of the public have got DVDs without Sir Woolly Pully in it. Perhaps BA have doctored those DVDs as well:rolleyes:

And is it an ex-flightline aircraft?

Still with Flightline, but being operated for VLM for a relatively long time, it makes sense to get it painted up. Could be the first of a few, if this 146 “trial” is successful.

Timing’s very convenient for Flightline for revenue stream as I would imagine there’s going to be a lesser need for them to be used at MAN now that BACon’s part of Flybe.

I traveled many times on BA 732’s to GVA, DUS and NCE, from MAN.

The era of the British Airways Manchester titles in the vain attempt to persuade the travelling public that they cared about being at MAN.

Who remembers BA’s Athens service with a 757? OR Northwest’s 2 weekly 747F service. Or the occasion of a KE 747F operating for SV!?!

Out of the list Glen supplied, I can barely recollect ever seeing YR-IRE (RO IL62) or C-FCRA (CP 747) gracing MAN, but he did miss the Transamerica 747s (N741/2/3TV) and in 1978 PA and TW 707s (one week it was PA, the following TW with that pattern repeating)
