The particular cockpit pic is appeared in Whitley’s pilots notes as a Mk.V …

But..I don’t think that this pic represents a cockpit for dual flying controls… I’ve got the dual control installation… and many parts are missing from that pic.

Anyway I will follow Elliot’s suggestion.. Actually I will go for “choice – 3″…

Night satin black for the blind flying panel and a flat black for the rest panel…and God be with me!!!

Except if any Whitley’s crew survivor…can say more about!!!

Thank U for your interest. I will keep this thread active for other questions in the future during my progress.

TNX guys. I really appreciate your interest.

Yes Elliott. I did received your pics. I have already sent you a feedback.
    Thank U.

    QUESTION
What was the color of the instrument panel? Green with black the square panel front of the pilot’s controls or… overall black like Halifax and Lancaster?

According to my pics…I think that the first choice (green and black) fits better…

    What’s your opinion guys, Elliott?

    Step-2

    Hi guys..
This is my last post for this year.

    http://img571.imageshack.us/img571/3367/dsc00055wx.jpg

Yes… I know I’m late. But I had to build a huge number of sections and join them together. This step was the most important of the whole build. Too many dry fits, too many resets in order to achieve the correct fitting according to Whitley’s technical plans.
At first I had to build the cockpit floor, Main fuselage’s floors and then all the bulkheads.

The most difficult part of this build, were the bomb-bays cells. The main structure built was next. The cockpit floor, the rear fuselage’s floor, the bulkheads, radio-operator’s little cabin, and all the major components from nose to tail!

As soon as this boring part was finished we stepped forward to its final dry fit, checking gaps etc. Everything is good enough and we proceeded directly to its primer. I used Primer for car’s plastic parts.

At this point I would like to say that I didnt pay attention on the LEFT rear fuselage side during attaching the frames of its structure. Its a blind part… Mostly I did a rough work in order to strengthen the left side as well as the right one.

    http://img404.imageshack.us/img404/2220/dsc00077aq.th.jpg http://img218.imageshack.us/img218/3267/dsc00078a.th.jpg http://img832.imageshack.us/img832/5594/dsc00079hm.th.jpg http://img545.imageshack.us/img545/5923/dsc00081z.th.jpg

The most boring part and dangerous part of such a build is now finished. We shall continue next with the interesting making of all the interior’s items such as seats, instrument panel, devices etc.
Thank U for your attention. I would be grateful to you, If you post any objections so far, concerning the technical accuracy of all these. I can fix them if its possible…
    PS. Forgive my poor English!

My best wishes and a Happy new Year to U and your Families!

IIRC he also did a 1/48 Stirling and Manchester. Haven’t seen any detailspics of these.

Great modelmaking although to nitpick (hey it’s a Halifax), the canopy framing is a bit off making it too high and flat at the top, but who cares, it’s a masterpiece. He even added the “ditching exit” text above the pilot’s head. Let’s hope Trumpeter brings out a good quality Halifax, and whatever RAF heavy as well, the Wellington is gorgeous.

    Cheers
    Cees

Allow me to make a comment please.
Tsonos Megas, is my teacher. He was my inspiration 20 years ago! Tsonos, Has NOT built the 1/48 Stirling. That was a model from another modeller Mr. Aris Polizos. Tsonos has built, Avro Lancaster, Avro Manchester and this extraordinary Halifax.

    I do Agree with Phill

“Now thats what I call modelling!!

It’s good to see someone go to this level of work WITHOUT using aftermarket resin/white metal/etched brass enhancement sets..”

That’s my theory also. Unfortunately the new status drives the new modellers to Assembly kits paying hundreds of euros…than modelling using their ability and agility.

Anyway that is my personal opinion. I prefer to make something by myself, even this will never be perfect.

    Good morning there!

    Thank U.

Ok Bruce, I will post it on Key-publishing Model’s section. As soon as I’m ready I will fire it up.

I’m waiting for R.N Roberts book, and then I will start working. Till then feel free to ask me anything you want about my model. I would be very grateful to U to make a discussion concerning my mistakes.

It was my first effort in detailing an 1/48 kit. I’m an 1/24 scale builder.

    Alex.

It wasn’t easy for me to build such a legend. By the time this build was submitted…I knew that I will get hard and tough criticism…We are talking about Bomber command’s FLAG…

It was a great test and lesson for me. I spent 12 months for building it. I tried to correct Tamiya’s mistakes as much as I could. I wanted to make a pure wartime bird. In fact the colors are a bit darker than my daylight pics you may see on forums.

Anyway I respect all of you, I admire your high class information you provide via this forum.

I’m in contact with Elliott Smock for the Whitley_project in scale. I wish the Admins to allow me post my progress in here…

    Regards
    Alex.

CU tomorrow again. Its late for us here, and I have to wake up early! Have a goodnight!

    Hi Guys…
I’m Alex Kontiveis the Kit maker.

I’m very proud that my model got all these comments by experts like you all.

As far as I noticed…to much talk was done about the middle turret. I couldnt make a new one. I used Tamiya’s clear part. I met Antoni on Aeroscale forum and as he said the SN was corrected already. Don’t forget that the model is 1/48 scale. Its impossible for a simple modeller to get all the data, info or even Knowledge like many of you have already. I’m a Mechanical Engineer, and the Administrator on http://www.helmo.gr

Take a look at these pics below. The undercarriage sits far back than usual…

    To Administrators (REQUEST)

May I post here my next coming project as a step by step build? The project concerns an 1/48 A.W. Whitley VII.
I wish for that, because I will avoid the mistakes done on my Lancaster, and probably many friends here will help me with their Knowledges and Info.
