I know where the Storch is going but I’m under strict instructions not to make it public just yet!

    So do I!!

Thanks 🙂 I am not sure as I think 2 hangars have been partitioned off if I remember right. The IAE one is partitioned off and shared with Cranfield Aerospace. Also the former Patriot aviation hangar (that was right at the very end) was also partioned off – one side patriot, the other side Bonus engineering. It’s currently being renovated and I start working in there soon once its done! So i’m not sure which one you was in.

I think the collection was in the IAE/Aerospace hangar. I have worked on and off for quite a few years in the bit between Patriot and Bonus.

I remember way back in about 77 being shown around the hangar/s, collection had massively diminished by then, but was still impressive to a 16 year old. Tractor is a David Brown by the way. (Don’t ask me what model though).

The ‘breeze’ was across the runway instead of down it, so outside limits and I think it headed back to Coningsby.

    Briam

Lanc needs 10+ knots on the nose to stop safely at Duxford, wind was under this level, or so I have been told.

I believe the costs savings here are likely to be negligible in comparison to the rest of the show, as the majority of the Airside workers are, from memory, volunteers. What next, how about, ” I know it’s an airshow but these old planes are expensive so we are not planning to fly any of them today but we have some film available”. Thought they would have picked a better year to do this and not the 70th anniversary of the Battle of Britain when people are more likely to want to fly into a genuine wartime airfield. Think this decision may come back to haunt them.

Little confused here myself as the crew of both Dutch Dakotas on both days knew nothing about this and were quite insistent that they would continue flying and would be back next year. Can local governments grant exemptions to these rulings? Presumably the Dakota Norway DC3 and Junkers 52? will be subject to the same legislation. Would be nice to have a clarification on this and if exemptions can be granted why not so in the UK.

Certainly some tetchy people on here a times. What I meant by a challenge was simply with two weeks to go before a very big show and with all normal airframe checks plus pilot checks to complete, putting togther an airframe, albeit complete and test flown, will almost certainly eat into the time available. I am quite aware of the skills and dedication of the TFC engineers and volunteers, what I do not appreciate are sarcastic and snide comments.

Yep it’s the P40 should arrive sometime wednesday, hopefully time and weather permitting might see the P38, 39 and 40 altogether. Although personally seeing a lightning over Duxford again is something I am looking forward to, just think it may bring back a few unwelcome memories. Don’t mean to be negative or morbid here, as I said just my own thoughts

Well if the chinese were at pearl harbour then I guess maybe. I think it will be a challenge for the TFC engineers anyway, something along the lines of when Princess Elizabeth first appeared.

    RLM Collection

Interesting news regarding Glen Laceys collection

Peter Holloway has acquired a large collection of German Luftwaffe aeroplanes and associated artefacts; here is the press release:

    Quote:
On behalf of The Shuttleworth Veteran Aeroplane Society I am delighted to issue a Press Release regarding the disposal of the RLM Aviation Fairoaks- based collection of Luftwaffe aircraft, aircraft parts and memorabilia – the largest private collection of this nature to be sold for many years. The purpose of the Press Release is to dispel the inevitable rumour and speculation.

Peter Holloway, resident private owner and display pilot, has today confirmed that the following aircraft have been aquired by him and will be based at Old Warden –

    FW44 Steiglitz G-STIG
    Bucker Bu181 Bestmann – G-GLSU
    Klemm 35D – N5050
    Fieseler Fi 156c1Storch – G-STCH

It is planned to fly the Stieglitz and Bestmann into Old Warden within the next few days.
The Klemm, whilst also airworthy, will be transported by road pending UK Registration and issue of CofA. The Storch, a well advanced project, will reside in the museum initially before entering the workshops when space becomes available. It will then be completed on a full time basis as a ‘living exhibit’. The work is expected to take at least a year.

No decisions have been made with regard to the various other projects aquired, with the exception of G-MESS Nord 1101 (Messerschmitt 208) which has been sold to a UK buyer.

The airworthy machines are the sole representatives of their type in the UK. They are in magnificant ‘factory new’ condition and will make a fantastic addition to our displays next year.

I end with the words of Peter himself to me today –

‘I have worked long and hard to secure the RLM collection. I achieved it today. The financial commitment has been considerable. I would not have made this without the help, encouragement and commitment of The Shuttleworth Collection Trustees Chairman Tony Haig-Thomas, Chief Pilot Andy Sephton, Chief Engineer Jean Munn, Rob Millinship, Andy Jones, many friends – most especially Paul Ford, SVAS Volunteers and last, but not least, the lovely Nicky who has been there for me throughout. Without her unswerving loyalty and support it just wouldn’t have happened.

No decisions have been made regarding the rest of the collection – a large inventory of rare Luftwaffe instruments, engines, airframe parts and memorabilia. However, I hope that a significant proportion of it will eventually end up in UK Museums, some of whom bid unsuccesfully for individual items.’

With the amount of available hangar space it really should. But I doubt it somehow. Unless of course somebody knows differently!
