Another 71 squadron Vampire FB.5 down, October 1951

    Hi again,

The article mentioned above is to be published shortly. The crash of WA222, killing pilot Michael Richard Hudson happened on Saturday October 6, 1951. Obvisiously another Vampire of 71 squadron had the make a forced landing (at Gilze-Rijen AFB?) the other day. Anyone having the serial and/or other details? All help very much appreciated.

RAF markings and serials; size and font (for Harvard)

    Hi,

Thanks for this swift response you all.

Forgot to mention that I am, in this case, interested in the late WW2 and early postwar years. The RAF aircraft that went to the Netherlands Air Force; TigerMoth, Anson, Oxford, Proctor and the HARVARD. Trying to figure out what a Harvard would have looked like in those days. Have several pictures, but only a few underwing pix. And no “specification” of the sizes (length, width, height, …) and style of font. And on top of that, any other external markings.

Who has access to any of the documents mentioned above, and in particular :

AIR 2/8385 AIRCRAFT: General (Code B, 5/1): External and internal markings. 1945-1952
AVIA 13/616 Identification and other markings on aircraft. 1940-1947

    Regards,

Does anyone have any information on the Harvard Mk1 survivors in Canada mentioned by Scorpion89? Just curious as to if they were total write offs and why they haven’t been recovered?

There were only 30 Mk.Is serving in Canada, serials 1321 – 1350. From July 1939 with the last one wfu in July 1946 (1325). Hard to believe that this many would survive in the woods. Not impossible though.

    Hi all,

    Thanks for feedback.

Another question. What’s listed in the “Wrecks and Relics” books about this Harvard in the last 25 years?

    Hi Dave,

Thank you for information. Interesting. Now I do understand why this US Navy scheme, not in any way related to this particular Harvard, nor activities at Harrington.

Do you remember when al this was, that you picked it up at Coal House to have it moved to Bletchey Park?

    regards,

    Hi,

Recently my former (Dutch) neighbour imported a T-34B, Bu140725. It arrived in a container at Balen-Keiheuvel, Belgium (EBKH) for restauration.

    Hello forum readers,

Another year gone by. Still no trace of the fuselage of EZ259?

    Regards,

    Hi all,

Still no info where EZ259 is? Bit surprised. Or disappointed 🙂

Things like that don’t get lost these days, or?

    Hi,

This one reported to be former MM53042. “7151” on the, easy replaceable, sidepanel however this one not absolutely making it the real 7151. Could be though.

FYI. MM53042 was not reported since the mid eighties…
