Arm Waver – Why not get Mr Arm Waver senior (your Dad) to have a petition or something on the Pilots booking in point at my Abingdon Fayre event on 2 May??? – People can wonder up to the tent (crowd side of course) & ask for your Dad??:D

No fear of whinging Nimbys at ABingdon – it is in regularish use by Heli’s from Benson & VGS Motorgliders & as being a MOD owned airfield, the locals who moan about noise are told in basic terms “tuff”!!!
That remindsme there is a big whitehouse to the left of RWY 18, the owner even moans about the sheep bleating in the spring!

    Oh i wish i had a pair of Tornado’s!!!!!!!!!

Yep only 2 & abit weeks to go, bloody hectic here i can tell you!!
My intention was to introduce abit more Military stuff which i have this year (one being a pair of 100Sqn Hawks, which hopefully will operate out of Abingdon as displaying so theres another connection from its past returning – Hawks were serviced here at one time – & oddly enough the Display pilot flew a Phantom into “RAF Abingdon” back in 84 for a show!!).

Seriously we try to juggle around each year to keep it interesting for all the family, & regarding aircraft we try within our budget to get some interesting types….people forget “display acts” & some statics do cost alot of money & we are only a volunteer group!!

Weather permitting, we have Air Displays by: RAF -100Sqn Hawk, Tucano & BBMF Spitfire, Royal Naval Lynx mk8, T28 Fennec, Denny Dobson, & a DeHaviland Vampire T11. – Oh & poss a C17 Flyby!!

I take into account various aspects from an enthusiasts point of view so to get the aircraft positioned by our expert Marshallers (Mr Arm Waver etc) so to gain good photo opportunities (i hope).

One thing, the regular Merlin HC3 from Benson is very iffy at the moment due to them being grounded but hey, we were lucky enough to have it for the last 3 years (being a user of Abingdon)..

Air movements start on Friday with a few arrivals right through til following tuesday so we gonna be busy!!

Arm Waver – i think you got it slightly wrong , Denny is bringing in 4 or so types, but have 9 Chippies booked in (so far)..

    :D:D 😀 😀

Kenneth – i went to ILA Berlin show in 2002, excellent show altho we got caught in the middle of a thunderstorm so the German solo F4F & Mig29 & Tornado cancelled….i do reccomend it.
Nice to see aircraft like the JU52s.

If you get time, visit the Luftwaffe Museum at Gatow – an excellent museum at no cost (well wasn’t when i went) & if you like Migs, Sukhois etc then you’ll be in your element..

They also have Lightning F2A, Harrier GR1, German Gannet, F84s, Canberra, IL28, F104’s, T33’s, – too many to mention..

Darren – i do have the details for ‘901’ somewhere but you’ll have to wait a few weeks as very busy now with my forthcoming show.
If you come along, you may be able to speak to the owners of her in person! Leave a message if you do not see them at the Pilots booking in point.

I was in 2121 Abingdon ATC from 86 to 92, had an excellent time.
Did loads of things, heres a few ie: was in the small bore & full bore shooting teams & lucky enough to represent Thames Valley wing in the prestigous Bisley competition, went to RAF Cosford & RAF Bruggen summer camps (Bruggen – loads of ‘tonkas flying’, went to a weapons storage area close by and kicked myself cos as a Lighting fan, remember seeing F2A’s & a few T4’s dotted around the site & forgot my bloody camera!, plus Sqn visits & a trip to Laarbruch & again see a Lightning F2A in the woods & again forgot my camera, belgian war museum, & i do remember flying into & out of RAF Wildenrath & my lasting memory of that place was the Phantoms blasting off!,) plenty of visits to places of interest, Ceremonial parades etc, got organised some talks from a friend who worked on Jags at Abingdon & later he went onto Omani Jags, & Capt Collins from the 133rd ANG from Minnesota whilst on Det at Abingdon with C130E’s, & before i left Cadets, as i worked at RAF Abingdon, got tours for cadets around the Jag & Buccaneer servicing flights….oh of course plenty of air experience flying – types included:
Andover E3, Puma with 88 display pilot, Chipmunk from the AEF at Shawbury (anyone rememberwhich AEF?), RAF C130, USAF ANG C130E out of Abingdon whilst they were on det, about a dozen VC10 tanker air refuelling sorties (types refuelled incl: RAF F4J Phantoms, Buccs, Tornado F3’s & GR1’s, Sea Harriers, Harrier GR5’s, E3 Sentrys, other VC10’s, Jags, ) 7 Tristar air refuelling sorties, Ventures of 612VGS, – all good times!

Had the good fortune of going to 12 or so annual ‘Spring Fever’ exercises on Salisbury Plain at Easter time, really good fun, learned to rough it over 5 days to survive on 24 hr ration packs, slept under bivvys, miles of cross country Nav training….. and night exercises.

Sorry for harping on, but ATC life then was excellent & wish i could be 14 again!:D 😀

Darren – nice air to air of WP805 & WP901.

6AEF were sorely missed when went to Benson in mid 92, but i believe WP805 has been restored somewhere around Lee on Solent way?

I have WP901 ‘coming home’ to Abingdon on 2 May for my Abingdon Fayre mini Airshow / Country Fayre event, be nice to see there again (come to think of it i have at least 8 Chippies flying in!!!!!)
The 5AEF Husky has been to the last two Abingdon Fayres which was nice to see & hopefully will be back on 2 May.

Oh well i will keeping you & the marshalling team on your toes for my 5th Abingdon Fayre OAW – have at least 6 Jets for you to deal with & slim chance of an ‘erky’ from Lyneham!!!

Hey why not paint a big white cross on that NIMBYS house at Turweston, and ask as many fast jet Sqns to use it as a target & especially Tornados – there rule is they must go over his house low & in full afterburner!!!

It pee’s me off with these di**heads who buy propertys on the edge of an airfield – i mean what do they expect!

Abingdon – Mass flypast during the 90 Bof B airshow

Abingdon 81 – Lightning F3, one of the highest speed, low level passes i have ever seen, of course ending in the ‘Vertical’

    Bassingbourn 78? – F104 Starfighter ‘motoring’

Fairford ( either 85 or 87) – ‘ The Vikings ‘ – German Starfighter pair, one going through the sound barrier accidentally.

Oh and just for good measure, Abingdon Fayre 2002 – Air Atlantique DC3 & 2003, the Hunter F6A.

Not being biased or anything either re the last!!

    ( http://www.abingdonfayre.latest-info.com ) 😀 😀
