    F/O S.C.Walch.

Just glancing through some threads and came across this one on Stuart Crosby Walch. In 1957 my late father purchased the Walch family home form Stuart’s sister Brenda(dec) in the upper part of the Hobart(Tas) suburb of Sandy Bay. The upper sun room had wooden door posts and on these posts were marked the growth heights on the three Walch children non of whom survive today. The marks stopped when Stuart left for England. Brenda moved to the small cottage next door when dad bought the house.
A while back I purchase through the BoB Society a brass plaque to be placed on the memorial wall in memory of Stuart. R.I.P.

Looking through the registratioms, G-AIGM, I own the previous Auster reg, G-AIGL. Any help on the history of that aircraft, ie owners and flights, I do have the orignal journey book for the aircraft, but would like some more information on it. It is now registered VH-AIK.

    SAAA

Canberra should contact the Sport Aircraft Association of Australia, as they hold the right to check and survey all Homebuilt/experimental aircraft in Australia. Work site and ability has to be assed before comencement to build. No check–no regristration, or if building under the RAA (Recreational Aviation Association) same applies.

    Thanks for sharing.

What a wonderful set of photos. From way over the other side of the world and ‘Down Under’ my greatest of thanks for such a great set of photos and a wonderful tribute to the organisation and people who run the show. I repeatly watch the DVD on the show, and long for the day that some how I may be able to get ‘overthere’ to see the show. I am in total envey of the people who work, run and give their time to just be in amongst old aircraft.
Oh well I will just have to be happy and go fly my Auster.

    Engine replacement.

I beleive that several chipmunks and austers have had an engine replacement with a Chec. built engine as in the L.O.M. same layout as a gipsy/cirrus, I beleive that the rotational direction is opposite, and the exhaust exits from the other side. HP is from 90hp 4 cylinder through to a six cylinder supercharged at around 250hp. A selection of constant speed props are available. I assume that they are still available.(please donot quote figures supplied).
Re the mag replacement of BTH with sinchilla(?) I know that Don and Robert Bunn have and do the conversion with an STC. I was asked if I wanted it for my rebuilt Cirrus minor2 motor for myJ-1 ‘AIK’. Dick Hourigan rebuilt both the BTH mags and my spares.

    Hanger flying.

Some years ago a program on our local telly, I think it was called “You asked for it”, featured a BD-5J flying through a hanger. I remember tapeing on video but I would think that by now the tape has been wiped. Was there not some hanger flying featured in a Laurel and Hardy movie or a Abbott and Costello film of many years ago, using an early Waco biplane.

SoDH, Knowing of the owner, and his ways, I dare say it was his own personal conversion. From memory there was no nose/motor mount extention and as it was only three seats. I can still picture him giving joy rides at a local regatter, and again relying on a fadeing memory the seats were steel and of the kitchen table variety.

    Tiger Floats.

Here in Hobart,Tasmania many years ago there was a Tiger Moth opperating with floats. It belonged to a local petrol station owner Vern Reid. To the best of my memory it had the center section between the cockpits removed, and a canopy off a CAC Wackett, (sliding hood) fitted, along with the seating placed off center so a third seat could be in place of the center section. 1967 local large bushfires saw the demise of that aircraft, as it was housed in a shed on the shoreline. Sorry but I do not have any photos of the aircraft. Just as an aside to the number of people in a tiger, there is a photo at the local aero club, again center section removed (Maintaince) and five(5) people cramed in!

From the land down under, the ‘Apple Isle’ the place of fine wines, outstanding food and fare, where we are all suposed to have two heads so we are twice as smart. Not to say we do not have fine aircraft as well.

    Auster Parts.

While on the subject of Auster parts, what price a Rotax, 12v CE starter motor. I have given a spare to my engineer for his DH Dragon, and is to come back with an offer. Re the Auster legs, if all else fails I can photograph mine and send the measurements, Auster legs that is!

    Colours

VX927. This photo was taken about twelve months a go, and as you can see the struts are still blue and need repainting, along with the nose bowl which is an ‘aged’ cream needs to match the rest of the fuselage. The only non orignal part is the maul steerable tail wheel.

    orignal

I have tried to maintain as much orignality as possible with AIK. She still has the 100hp Cirrus minor, and I have just had another rebuilt, as the engine in the aircraft at the moment only has a short time to run and at present in running ‘on condition’. I fly to the condition and hp of an aircraft, and the prevailing conditions, both weather and airstrip. I have owned AIK for about five years and have ‘re-furbished’ not restored her, that is a compleat check of all systems, a clean up and repaint, and I went to adult-ed classes and learned to re-upholster, so the seats and the internal trim have been done.

    Milti-purpose Printer

    CKing.
I recently bought (6months ago) a CanonMP760 Multi printer. It dose all the paper copying you want, scans photos, special holder for both 35mm film and slides, and it has a special holder to print to printable disc, seperate ink tanks, and a receptical for several different data cards and will print direct from the card. Cost-$410:00 Aus.
