Scanner.
Recently bought one of the latest Cannon scanner’s. It is of the all singing all dancing types, ie. will scan of course, print directly on to disc/dvd,including a seperat insert for the mini disc (printable types) colour/b&w printer, has facility to copy slides-and-35mm negs with docking for several types of digital cards. The ink is in seperate tanks which can be replaced individualy and has a small flip up screen to view progress of your work. I think the model is MP760, and retails for about $450Aus. A tad exi, but for all the capabilities, probably goog value.
Pslam 23
For the past couple of days I have watched the tributes flow in to a man who has obviously touched the hearts and minds of many folke on this forum. As a realitivly new person to the forum I read a lot of Steves replies and posts, and he seemed a great person, so, from down under, a pilots version of pslam 23:
The Lord is my controler,
He guideth me accross dark skies,
He tracks me through controled air,
He is the keeper of my log,
He guideth me by the light of holiness for his namesake,
Yea though I fly mid the thunders and tempests of life,
I shall dread no danger for thou art near me,
Thy love and care shall shelter me,
Thou preparest a landing field before me in the homeland of eternity,
Thou anointest the sky with calm-my plane flies smoothly,
Shurly sunlight and tailwinds shall favour me on my last flight,
And I will rest in the hanger of my God for ever.
Steve- May your soul and the souls of all the faithful rest in peace for ever.
Beautiful, “Can I have some more please sir”
Thanks very much for the offer of posting some of the digital video on the web, re the shuttelworth displays, I shall await the posting with great anticipation. Again it would be nice to see something available on the open market via the trust, could raise a few coin for them.
Slight diversion, nice to see some AUSTER photos on the forum the other day.
Shuttleworth DVD /Video
As a favour to us colonials on the far side of the world, would it be possible to have some one from the trust, or appointed by the trust, to tape the season at Shuttleworth, and may be transfer it to an all regions DVD, and be made available for sale at the end of the season.
Try as I might, I cannot find any tapes DVD’s from the trust suitable for viewing. Those that are, are very old and well past their use by date. I have had to rely on the magnecient photos posted on this site by all the good folke. I have a portable 5gig HD sits at the computer ready to download photos, nice as it is, but I would like have some “movement at the station”. The posting of the spitfire tail chase from Ledgens 2004 is played often via the stereo system attached to the PC sound card, one word “BRILLIANT”
How dose the Battle of Britian Memorial Flight fair in all this, or is it under someone else’s banner. Said once by a learned friend in aviation,”We are our own worst enemy, we will end up regulating our selfs out of the skies”. Personaly I think if burecrats had Sh1t for brains, they could not soil their underwear. They seem to know the price of everything but the value seems to very conveniently excape them.
Lower than low.
Several years ago,(90’s), Pylon racing was conducted here in Tasmania in the north of the state and called Sky Race. One of the entertainment segments was for a well known aerobatic ‘ace’ to take off in the Pitts special imeadiatly airborne he would invert the aircraft back to ground level, to within having the prop and tail about a foot off the earth. I watched from the fence at the flight line that after noon where he was just that bit too low. Take off normal, inverted, then the motor screaming stopped, and he came past inverted sliding on the top wing of the Pitts, and the tail leaving a neat furrow in the grass. Misjudged alowance for the tailplane droping and nose rotating around the CofG. Pilot un injured, except for pride, aircraft $30k+ damage.
DH 88 Engines
Thank you for the correction, gentlemen. I was only going on what I had been told, obviously incorrect, but you know what rumors are—truth that needs to be corrected It is a great pity that the Museum had to be sold up.
Re The Aus Movie
TJ
The movie when shown here was called “Half a world away”. The DH-88’s were reconstructed film set craft with I beleive auto engines (Datsun 180-b) for ground movement along with wire tow on the undercarriage, the air to air shots were large R/C aircraft, all of which were sold off later after the film.
An Anson posed as Boing, a Harvard/AT-6 as a GB racer, Stearman’s as Fairy flycatchers, several Tiger Moths, and a Miles falcon. Most of the aircraft I beleive are/were privatly owned.
I still have a copy of the telly movie —somewhere, on VHS (PAL). 🙂
Sponsered Pilot.
Sponsered F/O S C Walch of 238 Hurricane Sqd, in September 2000.
The reason for that pilot, 1- He is listed as one of the Australian pilots who flew, and 2- in 1957 my parents purchased the Walch family home. When we moved in, the top sunroom had marked on the wooden door stile, the year and height of Stewart and his two sisters. The inscriptions stoped in 1938. When the house was sold some 40 years later the inscriptions were still there, and his younger sister, Brenda, pased away five years ago.
Happy and safe Flying New Year
May I add my voice to all that has been said and wish all people a safe and happy New Year. Spare a thought for those lest fortunate than ourselves.
New year reselution, besides learning how to spell, try and foster more interest in aviation. 🙂 Cheers to all
Would definatly like to meet up, but, and there is always a BUT, it will depend on the time, work commitments and spare cash. Have to take time off for the ALAC’s here at Hobart (Cambridge) 7th to 14th March.
Boys and their Toys
A 1929 Excelsior Henderson, very nice bike. Now that the Auster (1946 J-1)is virtualy finished I must consider putting in some time and finishing the restoration of the 1917 Henderson. Sold 1909 Belt drive Triumph (ex RAF WW1) and a 1956 Aerial 500 Red Hunter to aid the purchase of the Auster.
Still have 1982 BMW TIC R100 and 1974 CB 450. 🙂
Keith Miller.
I do not know of his war time career, but once remember him being interviewed by some cricket personality, who asked “Do you feel under any stress when out there palying for Australia in the test match”. His most famous reply to that was “Stress son, you do not know what stress is till you have a Me-109 up your @rse.” He apperently flew Spitfires in europe.
DVD’s of Airshows
While on the subject of airshow DVD’s where can one purchase copies,if they exist, of the Shuttelworth airshows. I e-mailed them and they said not available. 🙂
