I went on the Monday and getting out of the car jet engines could be heard. to my surprise and delight four Jaguars out on the field including the specially marked final flight Jaguar coloured one which some lucky person was taxing around. a great start to a good day.

thanks to all who replied to my Tornado RTP thread. sadly I think a Tornado cockpit is out of my reach even if I can find one. there was a nice front cockpit section of one at the recent newark cockpit fest, so I guess they can be found. on the same site as the Phantom cockpit there are a couple of lynx ones for a £1000 is that a resonable price. does anyone have any other places to look websites scrapyards etc they would recommend. cheers.

Max, I was just curious, as you may have guessed from my response was wondering if it was for an extension to the museum. Really enjoy coming to the airfield during the week as well as the weekends.

Texantomcat, ( my favourite u.s. aircraft but does have to have a black tail with white skull and crossbones on it ) any update on expansion ideas plans. I do remember your post before Xmas looking for buildings that could be transported to your site. I do realise the airfield owner has a business to run, but one of positives is that you can get in for free have something to eat or drink and see some flying as well as visiting your museum.

cheers guys I guess I was hoping for too much. I did see the front cockpit section of one at Newark last weekend, and am I right in thinking an artist got an F3 and polished it up to hang in a gallery. Any thoughts or ideas would be gratefully received.

DCW great shots as usual, do we take it from your quote about the TFC cats that the rumours about the Hellcat being sold are true and possibly the Bearcat and Wildcat are to follow.

Great flying, good to see the Pilot OK. The BBMF is not totally taxpayer funded please see the Lincolnshire Lancaster Association website for more info on what they do and what they have supplied to the Lanc and other aircraft. If memory serves the second Hurricane was rebuilt from the money raised from selling a Spit and the most recent rebuild was done in the engineers own time. Also I believe it was a decision higher up in the ranks of the individual service how much support to give to there historic flights and the R.A.F saw the positives and benefits for the service of the BBMF hence the funding given from there budget, where the higher ranks in the Navy did not see these benefits so the support and funding seen was alot less. Saying that I believe the Navy top brass has now changed it’s attitude and tries to support the RNHF more because of the benefits it see’s.

I agree it would be a shame but we must thank The Fighter Collection for bringing it over so we could see it, I think we are probably seeing a shuffle of aircraft with TFC now Stephen Grey has taken a bit of a step back, hopefully not too much of a change and as this forum has shown he still enjoys his flying especially it seems the Hawk 75 and Bearcat, and who knows whats around the corner, as the current edition of flypast shows they are putting the TF-51 on the U.K registry and the last pictures I saw had the CR.42 being covered in Fabric.

As for just Spitfire’s and Hurricane’s well Shuttleworth have the gladiator, and soon to be wildcat, also there are swordfish, Nimrods, lysnader, we might not be able to have the range as the U.S. have but we don’t do too bad and we are lucky that European operators will bring stuff over too, I would like to see a couple of the 109s from Germany though pretty please.

Thanks Steve, If it wasn’t for Stephen Grey we probably wouldn’t have seen some of these aircraft in the U.K at all. Just a shame that some of the more rarer one’s move on, but I guess if they are rarer they are more desirable to others. Would be nice to see an original 109 in the skies of the U.K. again.

Seems a lot of work to go through to sell her on. Are we seeing the running down of the fighter collection now that Stephen Grey has retired from display flying, that’s the P-47G, P-40B and the Hellcat sold in 12 months, and I understand the Spitfire Mk.I is not registered to TFC.

Although I agree we may see a slimming of the collection, Pete Kynsey is chief pilot for TFC and does most of the flying, reading flypast this month it states that Nick will be filling the joker slot and Stephen will still be involved, TFC is slightly different to other collections with a great number of individuals contributing each year. Stephen is still around and I can see him still buying and selling if the right aircraft comes up at the right price.
