    When Daniel announced the B-17 project recently ( fits in a suitcase ) he did NOT appreciate any suggestion that the PR campaign was moving somewhat ahead of the actual project. Moderators were called, posts were massacred !

    Personally, I was hugely heartened by the Seafire which flew this week, not quite ‘out of the blue’ but with dogged determination, taking place out of the public eye.

    It wont make legends if the reenactors gets there first with a can of petrol and a match.

    Don’t forget the 24 year old enthusiast (Bill Fisher ) who cheekily wrote to the French Navy asking if he could have one of their retired Lancasters for the Historic Aircraft Preservation Society.

    They called his bluff, and wrote back to say it is in Australia, come and take it away 😉

    The pilot has been found not guilty of manslaughter.

    The CPS have prosecuted a few now along these lines, both maritime and aviation, and the juries have always returned a “Not Guilty” verdict.

    The Gnat Display facebook page is not surprisingly playing it down. He dived down to avoid weather, apparently. Yup.

    ”Hi there. Yes…the conditions were quite challenging and to avoid weather, one jet went slight lower than normal. Both pilots and jets were fine. Hope you enjoyed the display!”

    I did ponder that, and I was aware that a veteran was present, but I could not be sure it was he in the photo, hence my more generic observation 🙂

    At least the elderly gent was not forced to wear one, I guess he just thought he would take a chance….

    According to the latest issue of Aeroplane Monthly, which has pictures of the Martin Maryland survivor, it seems that the RAFM has so far declined to become involved in any recovery attempt. Presumably their lack of interest is predicated by the current outcome of the other attempted recovery to Britain of another Desert Air Force survivor.

    Shame they spent so much money on the Do17 collander – perhaps they could get wargaming.net to sponsor the Maryland recovery as well
