My mate Tony, a news editor at the BBC has this week been cutting together a 1/2 hour prog for broadcast once the forthcoming recovery footage is in the can.
A recent diver has reported that the wingtip is so fragile it is almost more of an imprint than a structure, so expecting a complete airframe is pretty optomistic.

The Halifax with the mocked up single fin was used for some sort of telecom trials, and survives as the forward fuselage section in the care of the IWM, latterly at Lambeth.

    This thread shows a photo.

Whoever performed that ‘ most unkindest cut’ did it in a pretty brutal place, turning it into an open cockpit Shackleton.

If only the country was still in the grip of the Trade Unions, who will of course be remembered for their vision, their selflessness, their social conscience, commitment to the good of the nation, their compassion and great wisdom.

Sad also that the Falklands were not to be taken by that benevolent military Junta, which was not in any way characterised by rampant corruption, torture, and mass murder.

Margaret Thatcher was perhaps the last leader of this country who actually had visible principles, and furthermore acted upon them. Cameron is a pygmy in her shadow.

My understanding was that ALL USAF, Marines and other flying units were withdrawn from non-operational appearances for the summer and perhaps beyond.

Has this order been rescinded ?

A rather non-legit but hopefully also non-damaging look into the DC-4’s here

A bit rough, but not beyond reprieve.

    A very sad tale.

Bill Lancaster was an interesting character, something of an entrepreneur and adventurer (obviously). One of his enterprises was the Red Rose (Lancaster) garage, which he established in Wendover, Bucks, just down the road from RAF Halton.

The premises are still to be seen, adjacent to the filling station on the Aylesbury road, and are now occupied by a car spares company. Certainly up to very recently at least, the Red Rose logo was still displayed on the building. I imagine very few people now know , or care, about the history or the man.

I hope she is up and running soon.

Four-engined piston aircraft are becoming a rarity in the sky now,

    Lanc, Fortress, DC-6, Heron……………any more ?

    What’s HARS ?

Google says ‘Hearing Aid Repair Shop’ . Some mistake, surely.
