David, I wasn’t suggesting they base their collection around trainers. But Shuttleworth said they were wanting to base their collection around trainers, I think it was no more than 2 years ago the said that.

Well I didn’t do too badly from memory.

The homing torpedo in question was called (deliberately misleadingly) a ‘Mark 24 Mine’.

First use was by a B-24 Liberator of 86 Squadron RAF against U-456 on 12th May 1943 (the u-boat was damaged, unable to dive, and was sunk next day by surface escorts).

This was the first operational use of a guided weapon in history.

Didn’t the Germans use HE111’s to launch a wire guided weapons against shipping?

That and rebuilding the hanger that was blown up during the filming of BoB, as you can never have too much undercover storage and its better than it just being used as a car park.

I took the pic this morning with a Sony DSC-H5, the pic isn’t great as I was a
it too close to the painting and like most Oils you view them from a distance not up close.
I bought it because it just reminds me why I’m into historic aircraft so much, also cos I was at the airshow
where the original photo was shot, but the main reason was because I’d had the privalage to meet Mark (and later Ray)
when I was young and that was what got me into historic aircraft.
I’d rather not part with it but may eventually have to.

DazDaMan, a friend who was lucky enough to win a trip in the Grace Spitfire in 1975 or 76 (I think),
always comments on it when ever he visits.

    Thanks
