I’d prefer a 747. But why can’t I dream?:D
Any part numbers shown? ‘Real’ aicraft parts will show numbers on most, if not all, parts.
Planners – wash your mouth out lad.
And the Isle of Wight is not without its share of anti-aviation planners and buyers. Sandown is a typical example; the airport has been there since 1928, that is 81 years by my reckoning. My we have some old planners and buyers around here!
Anyhow aircraft are more user friendly than pigeons – they don’t fly around pooing on everything.
Where to this Bank Holiday Weekend………
Sandown, Isle of Wight, of course.
Let’s go…………..
See you there at the cafe. Wasn’t there something about free drinks on this thread? Must have a look see. 😀
More than just one failure……..
The AAIB report makes some very interesting reading to the technically minded (way above the level of the Press) and highlights some very important issues relating to basic / initial design, maintenance, crew operation and air traffic control issues. The fact that the aircraft in question actually reached its destination (Bristol) AND landed safely, can only be put down to pure luck.
To anyone with any real aviation connections I say, download the report, read it carefully and see what you can do to prevent such a set of occurances happening again. It is truly applicable to a lot of us.
And for my part, well I am a systems design engineer, and I still have a lot to learn, even after 50 years. I also know that I will never know it all but am more than willing to learn on a daily basis.
Sandown Special Offer……….
Sandown is still very much here and, according to reports, will be FOR AT LEAST ANOTHER 2 YEARS, and much longer it has to be hoped. Locally it is reported that NO planning permission has been granted for any so called development, and is unlikely to be granted. Additionally the ‘Island Plan’ shows an airport at Sandown.
Tell a friend. Bring a friend.
LONG LIVE SANDOWN!
Sandown Liveth..
Go to Sandown before it’s gone forever. Within a few years it will be a Barratts estate
Over our dead bodies mate. There has been an airport at Sandown since 1928 AND IT IS GOING TO STAY THERE. If Messrs Barratts, or any other developer for that matter, want to build on the Isle of Wight then may I suggest they do an aerial survey in May / June and look for all those Oil Seed Rape fields that are going to waste and simply looking for some good use.
Why this very dim mentality to build on airstrips? Soon be an outcry if someone decided to build on all the football pitches or cricket grounds. Second thought – what a good idea.
So next time you are ‘down south’, give Isle of Wight / Sandown a call and drop in (well not litterally) for a chat, wad and cuppa. It is still there – very much so.
LONG LIVE SANDOWN.
Bembridge has a hard surface runway; Sandown has a grass runway. You can walk to either Sandown or Shanklin from Sandown Airport, alternatively there is a bus or a taxi will pick you up. The cafe has re-opened at Sandown and is highly recommended for the bacon butties, or anything else you may care to consume. Give it a try!:D:D
It all brings back to mind exactly what ‘CAA’ stands for – Campaign Against Aviation. What a pity that organisation (?) can’t employ some people in the know about military aircraft and then help to preserve our heritage.
Sorry, but to me, if an aircraft can fly safely whilst in uniform, then why not when wearing civies?
But then I suppose that nowadays you stand a good chance of upsetting the other dead-beats; you’ve got it in one – EASA (European Authority Strangling Aviation).:mad:
And I used to have friends in the CAA. Not any longer now I guess. Never had any in that crowd across the channel, not want any.
😮 Sorreeeee Pagen01, that will teach me a lesson for reading newest messages first. Better report for a public flogging for not reading things properly.
So, to put things right, or try to, Thanks Pagen01 for your input. It is much appreciated and very useful.
Am I now forgiven?
To Peter Mills:
Very many thanks for that. Exactly what I was looking for. 🙂 🙂 🙂
I feel I must reply to Fieldhawks remark about Wellingtons, I remember driving from Lincoln to Newark, and having to stop at the traffic lights to allow a Wellington to taxi from its dispersal on the right hand side of the road to the runway on the left. Bet those lights are long gone as this was in the forties.
Can’t remember the lights on the A46 from my days at Swinderby in the early 60’s when it was Vampire T11’s and not DI’s that flew the circuit.
I a not unrelated development I see ‘Get some in’ is available on DVD – well it always reminded me of Swinderby…..
Just as an up-date, Get Some In DVD Series 4 has just been released (good as ever) and the final installment is available in September. See Amazon.com.
Hello all
Can fellow forumites help me with this problem – what are some good points about Austers
cheers
Thay are a British design……………:D:D
And with the passing of the last heros of the Great War, please oh please can we really honour those men by returning Remembrance Day to its rightful date, the 11th November, and not the ‘nearest Sunday’. And, instead of just two minutes remembrance, maybe a full day should be put aside annually, on the 11th November, irrespectively of what day of the week it is. There is absolutly no reason for not doing this.
At the going down of the sun, and in the morning, we will remember them.
Fieldhawk.
