Thanks again Don,
I will pass the information on, I’ll post the result on the forum.

Hi,
I have been asked by a friend to try and find out more about her Grandfather FO Townley-Underhill he apparently flew with bomber command and was kia in ww2. That is all she knows.
After his death her grandmother remarried and as her new husband didn’t want a child her daughter (my friends mother) was adopted at the age of 7 (unbelievable!).
As a result her mother’s childhood was so traumatic she refuses to discuss the matter with her daughter. Therefore information about him is limited.
Regards,
Jon
Hi,
Thank you very much for the time you took to give such a detailed reply. I will make some further enquiries re the info you have given.
Do you know if CWGC data includes those KIA with no known grave appearing on the Runnymead memorial?

Jon
Hi,
I live just down the road from Congresbury in Nailsea and am a member of the local history society, the secretary of which is very interested in aircraft. I’m sure he would like to hear about the Austers. If he dosen’t have any answers you could publish a request for information in the society’s magazine “Pennant”.
PM me if I can help.
Regards,
Jon
So I take it the picture is copyright free?
Thanks
Jon
Thanks,
Where on the aircraft is it mounted?
Does anyone know if it comes apart and how it works. I’m assuming the pipe in the center delivers air to some sort of sensor, is the coil for de-icing?
Cheers,
Jon
Fantastic, a picture of it what were the chances of that!
The aircraft is supposed to be a long range (Flying Bowser) type does the picture confirm this?
Jon
Thanks Bruce
Here are the pics, you are right it does say “SERIAL”. Is there a list to indicate where BS491 was manufactured?
Thanks Ross,
Very interesting
I suppose I missed the most important question, could the item I found be from a Spifire?

Jon
