I was somewhat alarmed when I found this person was taking me seriously.

Might I suggest you get back in touch asap and fire their enthusiasm for the project?

Would another airworthy Spitfire be such a bad idea? You never know what might happen!

Possibly the best-looking Meteor of them all?

If I can’t have “Aces High” (which I can’t – it was a single) it has to be the incomparable “Captain Lockheed and the Starfighters”.

    Second is Budgie – “Sqwauk”

Equal 3rd – Deke Leonard “Iceberg” and Blue Oyster Cult “Secret Treaties”

    Just thought of another one…

    “Iceberg”, by Deke Leonard.

    Shuttleworth’s F2b on the cover.

Blind Faith (self titled) – I’ve censored it… “for decency sake”

You do realise that she is Ginger Baker’s daughter, don’t you?

No doubt some clever Fokker can post some images of these album covers (cos’ I don’t know how to!):

    Blind Faith

Budgie – can’t remember the title, but it had a mopdified SR-71 on the cover!

glad to hear someone else feels the same way over the fate of WT346.

    .

    Les,

Just don’t start me on what Cosford allowed to happen to the Vulcan B1 and Victor B1: the Moderators would not approve of the intemperate language I would be forced to use…….

Back on topic to Canberras: I presume ‘171 has been the subject of some serious spares recovery, to keep the remainder of 39’s fleet airborne in the 21st century?

Not really, WT346 was sold to the RNZAF Museum, Christchurch, NZ. Dismantled and shipped in Aprl 1993, this B(I)8 is still in bits in their store. 😡

    .

Apologies for the error about exactly what happened to WT346 – I was just (and still am!) dismayed that this aircraft was once in their care, and now no longer exists as such. It was basically fresh off the line from Laarbruch, and thus more representative of the sterling work of the Canberra than many other museum exhibits. The “Cold War” exhibition at Cosford is the lesser for its passing…..

Hopefully one will go to Cosford? A logical airframe to go in the cold war building?

They already had a perfect Cold-War Canberra – a B(I)8 – which they shamefully destroyed! Hopefully, if they get a PR9 they will take better care of it.

    Idle thoughts…

But, y’know, I can’t think of one book – or account by an inteligence officer or adj from an RAF Squadron! Odd.

    Hmmm.

I can only think of two – I’m working from memory, so cannot accurately remember titles and authors.

One was an early MCP title called “Bomber Intelligence”?? – chap later became involved in the A-Bomb project, which was covered in a subsequent title.

I believe there was also a Wm Kimber title (from the 70s?) about an Int. Officer in the Western desert on a Wellington squadron.

It’s a tragedy that you can’t buy all the books you want – or have room to keep them!

    Yes, it was very good.
Not much flying but a story about a pub, an airfield and the different Yanks and Brits that flew from it.
A bit dated now but well worth a look.
    Cheers
    Andy

Is that the one with distant shots of “Shortnose” Blenheims in it, with Type C roundels??

    Von Perthes,

Didn’t a Hampden also perish alongside that Do 217??
