The environmentalists are complete idiots. No airline sets out to lose money, just to spite the environment. If Oasis Hong Kong, or Ryanair, or whoever, can make a profit selling tickets at the price they do then all that this means is that airlines selling tickets at higher prices are either less efficient or offer a better product. It is bizzare that when rail companies offer cheap fares that’s regarded as being positive, and yet when airlines offer cheap fares they are cast as villians.

    Andy

Why are they idiots, because they have a different opinion to yours???

Your argument makes no sense, its nothing to do with airlines offering better or worse products, the fact is people are willing to go further afield by flying nowerdays because airlines are offering cheap tickets. The environmentalists are saying this is doing damage to the environment (which it is, a proven fact, and they say we need to do something about this, i.e add tax to airfares.)

Train companies aren’t villanised like airlines because operating a train from say Glasgow to London doesn’t produce the carbon emmissions that a flight from Glasgow to London does….

Could someone please explain why the BBC thought this paragraph is required in the story of Oasis launch delay?

“However, enviromental groups have express concern about the trend of budget long-haul flights, and say that low price fares do not reflect the true cost of enviromental damage they cause.”

What in the hell do airfares have to do with the enviroment?

Simple! Cheap airfares encourage more people to fly, thus impacting on the environment!

If you look back a decade or so there wasn’t as much demand for flights as there is today, because you didn’t have your Ryanairs, Easyjet and to some extent airlines like British Airways flying for the amounts you can pay today.

If this new airline is offering flights to HK for a fraction of the price of say BA, CX or VS then more people will book the flights and travel when they wouldn’t have done before. Its the same with Ryanair, people can now afford weeks away because airlines have become affordable for all.

This is why environmental groups are worried, they do have a valid point. Whilst it is obviously more convienent to fly it is prooven to be damaging. Thats why website such as…

    http://www.carbonneutral.com

    Have been set up.

I think the role of cabin crew will have changed so much by the time I reach 50!

I can’t see myself still shuffiling through the aisle with a heavy trolley at that grand old age, but i’m still young and i’m enjoying my job… the company I work for is fantastic and I do hope to move onwards and upwards…. so watch this space…. but if that doesn’t happen I am happy where I am (for the time being!)

I think kudos must go out to NCLRULES, its obiously something you are clearly wanting to achieve and I really do hope in 10 years time i’ll be on a flight and you’ll be in flying the plane!

Moggy C your comment has frustrated me for several reasons…..

I am Cabin Crew for an airline that will remain unnamed! Whilst you raise some fair points about the job of CC not being glamorous, etc it is certainly a fun job! Yes there are the bad days when you have a plan full of dissatisfied passengers, but usually your working with a great crew who will soon pick you up. I couldn’t do a 9-5 job…. every day is different and 99.9% of the time I enjoy my work and have fun whilst I am at work! How many people come home from work and say they have had a great day??

The job doesn’t go anywhere? Well thats a matter of opinion…. it depends what you are looking for in a career…. Promotion to Senior, a training position or another role within the company. So again I disagree, its not dead end…. the oppurtunities are there, if your willing to take them!

And whats all this about being female and maybe finding a husband…. I’ve met a fair few gay pilots and i’d certainly become a house husband on their wages (joke, I enjoy my work 2 much!)

But to anyone considering a job in the airline industry, bar the odd role (pilot) its not the best pay… infact lets be honest its appaling…. education is so important, the majority of people I have flown with have degrees behind them…. so even if you don’t need it for your role go to uni, if not just for the experience!

I don’t consider myself a trolley dolly….. my training course was so hard…. yes we may serve tea and coffee the majoirty of the time, i’m not denying that, but its only the odd few in the industry who look upon us as that these days. Most folks in the flight deck see our role as changing, esp with the happenings of the past 7 days…. remember even those in the flight deck may call upon our help at some point…. if your sat in that flight deck and your not feeling too good, our medical training may be the difference between you living and dying.

I can’t see an airline going bust due to a few lengthy delays and cancellations! It always make me laugh when a passenger turns around and says ‘I’m never flying this airline again’ when a a few months later their back with the same airline as it was £xx cheaper than the nearest rival! Its not got for an airline to get delays, but they all get them, its bad but hey, s**t happens! 🙂

Think the matter is moving away from the topic of aviation – be it a single mobile phone your carrying, or expensive equipment for spotting then you will obviosuly be a target for muggers.

Bmused55, is there any nation you do like or are you generally just into working your way around Europe, first the French now the Irish, what next???

HY usually operate the 757 into BHX, occasionally they use a 767. LX are codesharing on most of their flights to ZRH with AA now, is this in preperation for their move to T2 at BHX in July?
Friday isn’t the best day at BHX for spotting, Saturday’s one of the best in the summer, but you should have a good morning. Enjoy!

Guys come on, its a bank holiday in England today and by posting this thread you are reading way 2 much into T3! On previous bank holidays they have cancelled a great deal of their flights. The services between BHX and NCL are really only needed on working days, its not a popular tourist route! They haven’t gone bust, I suspect its just not profitable to operate on a bank holiday, when their airline is mainly used by business travellers!

Must admit the livery on the EI isn’t one of my favourites, would be great to see this re-designed livery on this great airline.

What a stupid question and a pointless thread. Why would FR have to pay Vodafone to give them advertising at airports throughout Europe? Another case of Skylinerworld wanting to start a thread, but having nothing useful to contribute!

Comet – your comment shows total ignorance. So your holiday flight may be affected (after reading your post I sure hope it is.) Do you know how much staff at airport handling agents get paid? I can assure you its not a liveable wage, usually no more than £5 to £6 an hour, to be at the airport at all hours of the day and dealing with all the s**t from passengers first hand. The union is representing airport workers well. At the end of the day flights will get delayed if the strikes go ahead, but surely you can understand why these strikes may go ahead?

Birmingham is one of the most multi-cultural cities in the UK, in the next few years there will be more black/Asian residents than white. May as well plug the city whilst i’m here…… Birmingham, well worth a visit esp the new Bullring development and the airports not all that bad either!

EK are using a 777 on their BHX flights, they were planning to operate twice daily flights, but then decided to use the 777 instead of the A330.

Have Helios dropped its weekly BHX LCA flight?

Thursday evenings are busy at Birmingham, between 7 and 8 theres a few BA arrivals, SN, TCX, CF, FR, BE, AF and VZ. Departing airlines T3, VZ, FR, BA, LH, KL, SN, BE, FCA and CF!

TCX aren’t the only airline that fly to Cayo Coco, a number of airlines including Air Canada offer services there as does Cubana.
