Now it seems the USA (with your eager support) wants to relegate us to tier 2 again, without the access which was a precondition for us joining the project in the first place.

We have always thought of you as a number 2! Why change now!?!?!?!? 😀 😀 😀 😀 😀

    If a F-22 can take out 5 F-15’s that means it’ll take out at least 12 typhoons! 😀 😀 😀 😀 😀 😀

I guess it all comes down to WE HAVE IT, YOU DON”T, WERE NOT GOING TO GIVE IT AWAY. Doesn’t it. So the U.K. can get out it’s check book and keep writing those zeros untill we tell you when to stop! 😀 😀 😀 😀 😀 😀

Where do you think JSF would be without UK technology?

No FCS for the STOVL version, for starters, and both engines would be the poorer.

    Shouldn’t you be thanking us?

What!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Rolls Royce bought Allison and they were working on that tecnology long before Rolls was in the picture! Rolls and GE gave their engines away and 2 million dollars per engine to have them hung on the 787! Rolls is going to have a big suprise in a few years and remember you heard it here first! JSF isn’t going away! 😮 😮 😮

I agree with you again Terrel! I think we should let Europe deal with it’s own problems! They sent their token forces over to help in Iraq but I’m sure they are reaping a windfall in Rebuilding contracts! I don’t see Europeans helping me! My grandfather was in Europe during WWII and his bomber ran off the runway and the RAF was there taking picutres so they could invoice the USAF for the runway damage. He said is was common for them to do things like that. He didn’t think so much of the Britts as he was there to help them and they were going to send him a bill! I wish to exempt the French from this conversation as they helped in our Liberation.

I don’t think the US is worried about the UK government or the RAF and RN leaking secrets. I think the concerns stem from companies like BAE and EADS having relationships with each other, as well as burgeoning relationships with China and Russia.

I agree with you Terrell! IT isn’t going to happen! They are just going to get what they paid for and people are working hard to see it doesn’t happen!

    good one

The 4 billion is a far better investment than the Billions wasted on the typhoon program. If you want to talk about messed up accounting let’s talk about the Typhoon Program! How many billions of dollars went into a program for a fighter that was built to fight wars in the 80’s. Just look at it. It is not modern by any means. It looks the same vintage or older than the F-16. The Typhoon is a burn barrel for pound notes. 😀 😀 😀 😀 😀 😀 😀 😀

…True, but this is a press release and (take it from someone who writes them for a living) press releases are always couched in terms try to keep as many people happy as possible. This bit:

‘…but without the technology transfer to give us the confidence to deliver an aircraft fit to fight on our terms we will not be able to buy these aircraft. I am spelling this out because it is so important to make our intentions clear’

…is actually very strongly worded for a document like this – the media know how to read between the lines of statements like these (they also know how to blow them out of all proportion). If you only got your information from press releases you would think that everything was rosy with the world all the time. I think there are some signals in this one that represent a line in the sand.

If it was me writing it, and I thought everything was basically OK, I would have written it as something like ‘there are many issues with technology transfer that remain to be established before the MoU can be signed, but these negotiations are necessary to ensure that the UK’s best interests are represented’ or something lie that. Unequivocal statements are quite rare.

Agree! There is alot of screaming and yelling behind closed doors and everone is working hard to shoot this program down! Or in the U.K. case sway a decision.

The problem is that we entered the deal on the condition that there would be a full tech transfer and we would get soverignty over our own aircraft. This was fine for a long time with the Clinton administration, but then the Bush camp changed the deal because they didn’t like it. Now, a government has the right to withdraw from agreements as it chooses, but i ask you, what could you expect the US government to do if the situation were reversed?

That is not the Deal! The deal was you put x amout of dollars into the program and you get X amout of tecnology dollars out. The rep from the U.K. signed on to the program agreed and now the U.K. is changing the rules and want more than what was bargined For.

The deal we made ( and the US was fine with) is no longer being honoured, so I think that the UK gripe with the project is perfectly legitimate.

The U.K. is trying to play the U.S. as fools because in the grand scheme of things the U.K. has put very little money into the program like the U.S. has and is wanting to change the rules and reap a tech Bonanza. [/COLOR]

The U.S. does not owe the UK anything. Allison built the lift fan! So they put RR on the building so what! We gave them the design to build it. Hard headed english! That’s probably why the French told the UK to get lost when the were going to build a fighter with them. No wonder the french have a dislike for

That because I have a life unlike those who spend countless hours debating trivial matters that they can’t change. I can’t tell you how many times I read some of that Anti American B.S. your spewing. I Agree with and respect the French and German people. However . I would bet you on the helicopter thing but you would probaly not pay If I won. If you won you would want more than what was agreed upon! Sort of like the JSF thing 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂

“They can take back their EH-101 also.”

    1. It won VXX fair and square. Don’t kid your self it was a gift over this JSF thing[b]

    2. F-16, F-15 and F-22 with their carrier capabilities? Our Country doesn’t have problems obtain carrier aircraft

    3. It has NOTHING to do with manufacturing our own F-35s for sale to other nations, nor even with having the right for the UK to compete for integration, upgrade, support and sustainment work on other people’s JSFs. Sure it does you guys sold the Spey jet engine to the Russians

We are asking for no more than the US would quite rightly expect on Merlin. Don’t even go there with the merlin! You guys would have gave anything to anyone who would help you when the Germans were kicking your can.

We should be entitled to expect some help on this, since we paid up front to be a tier one partner, and since the aircraft was developed using plenty of UK Intellectual Property, and since (regardless of how many JSFs we buy) we will be building the back end of every single JSF that flies.

Lord Haa HAA can complain all he want but it won’t happen as the JSF work you have now as well as the EH101 work could evaporate so he is putting on a good show. You are only getting what you paid for and no more. I hope W just gives your money back and takes all of the work with it.!

Let’s see perhaps because Typhoon is currently not carrier capable! 😉 Otherwise Typhoon is no failure.

The only thing it’s capable of is putting on a airshow for school children. Build a carrier if it’s so swell of a plane.

Hell let them go. Why should we give in to blackmail just so they can incorporate our best stealth technology into their industrial base and use it to compete with us?

The Typhoon is a failure! If not why would they be so worked up about JSF. I say we give them back their 2 Billion and let them buy something from France! They can take back their EH-101 also. 😡
