J8 was totally different with the Mig21s. It was designed to shoot down U2s or SR71 flew over china airspace. The Chinese gov. was very annoyed about those U2 or SR71 always fiew into Lop Nor to peek Chinese nuclear facilities and the J6/J7 were no way to intercept such high flyers. SA2s was agood hunter of U2,but the prey wasnt always flew into the trap. Thats the reason for China to make a twin engine Mig21. It was the objective for China to make J8 in the 1960s. Actually after the success of J6 first flew(1964) & J7 first flew(1965),China began her research of her twin engine Mig21,J8 but the progress didnt go smooth until mid 1970s.Basically J7 wasnt reliable until 1975.
Mainly becuse the engine(R13) was unreliable due to the heat resistance material. Just like the F106, the J8 can be regarded as a stragetic fighter in China stragetic air command.

Sure China is a very peaceful nation and does everything to the region is for peace and harmony. It was those countries who sold TW F16s,Mirage2000/5,M60,AH1W,Lafayette….M16 began the unbalance of TW strait. Those arms sales was the cause of no peace and tensions. China is the obbressor and TW was the oppressor. China aiming 500missles and deploying Sukhoi fighter jets/J10 to counter those unblalance and was a right should have! By the way US obstacled China to acquire Phalcon AWACS plane was another oppression. I must condemn the Chinese gov. being too coward and we must raising military budget in two digits for 100years. By the way the EP3 incident should be avoided if the J8IIpilot Major Wang requested for engagement.

Viet airforce did fought with US airpower over a decade,and they have some pretty great pilots. But PLAAF has shear numbers of aircraft and the Soviets cannot save them from such a far away.
Remember PVAAF pilots in Korean war were knowing nothing about aircrafts in the China civil war but managed to fight with US/UN airpower and shoot down some US airace like wing cmdr Lt Col George Davis ,Harold Fischer , Heller such Sabre ace!
The Viet Cong airforce were badly beaten by US airpower in 1972 they were at the brink of collapse,it was a good time to finish them forever. So that was the stupidity I mean,a missed oppurtunity.Vietnam cannot make fighters or any aircrafts by their own!I think it was the political reason that forbidded PLAAF to join the war.You know what happened in the 1971 coup and AF officials was suspected to be involved and under political ‘re-constructions’ in 1970s. Too pity!:(

There were a few USAF or Navy planes downed during the Vietnam war era.Those planes were miss flew into China and downed by PLA planes. I can remembered was a F104C in 1965,pilot captured and released. Two US navy A6As were downed by Mig19(J6) planes. One USN F4B downed by Mig17 1965,all those pilots fate unknown listed as MIA!

J10 beats Su27s wasnt a very special news. All the light weight fighter of the same generation can do that. The Mig19/21 always beats Phantoms in close air combat. PLANavy Mig17 had downed US Navy F-4B in 1965/66. And “colonel Tomb”impressed Cunningham with his Mig17s!
J10 has a canard does have a cutting edge in combat,but most heavy fighter pilots will choose BVR combat if their adversary was known as a dogfighter. Like Iraq war in 1991,F15/14 pilots were told to choose BVR combat after the west learned the agility of Mig29 from those former E Germans planes.So dont be so amazed by the news, the news was true but dont be over valueing the capabaility of J10. For PLAAF/N the Flankers were still the mainstay!

The news wasnt special since excercises does not reflected the actual air combat.Everything were pre-set up.Usually an air force combat power does not reflected by a few special grade pilots’ remarks.And a few special grade pilots cannot reflected the overall combat power. China should have a top gun alike trainning program to carry out more depth and board trainning,right now the flying hours of Chinese pilots were 100 hours average and that was under standard requirements. The flying hours must doubled to let the pilots gainning more skills and confidences. Also China can carry out joint combat exercises with Russia or Pakistan or other “friendly” countries
or employing foreign advisors(retired pilots) to promote the skills.
Right now China has 300 Flankers? Maybe too optimistic. China began assemblingFlankers since 1998 and plus those Su30Mkk that delivered,China has 150-180 Flankers now. There was no MKK ever crashed as TW psed news,the sukhoi declared they never heard of that! The 1979 sino Viet war has almost no air combat actions at all.That was a great stupidity because the skills can be passed to newer pilots. And throughout the 1980s border conflict with vietnam was just ground operations that wasa huge missed oppurtunity! Now everthing must written from beginning. Also China must learn more from the israelis combat experience to keep up the latest measure of AA combat.Those Korean war AA combat legends were gone and not appropiate in modern times

China must thanks israel alot alot to their efforts of helping the J10 project! Because China’s aircraft were taught to be look like russians: J8 China’s Ye152a/ J8II China’s Su15s and JH7 China’s Tornado in Su24’s size. It was Israel helped China building a fighter that met the west standard except the engine was Russian! I dont think J10 will export because China has a great demands over that fighter to replace those J7,J6,J8 those clumsy soviet planes and there wasnt such a reason to do so in the forseeable future!
About the FC1,it was designed to Pakistan soley because Pakistan is a very important ally and the PAF has a very limited funds even they have,the PAF will spend on Mirages first instead. FC1 will provide a quantity satisfication to the PAF.Like the precessors J6/A5/J7G. The FC1 served as a quantites asircraft,so there is no way PAF will get J10.Maybe PAF is talking with Quatar for their surplus Mirages!
What I think is the PLAAF/N is seeking a successor to replace the Flankers. Because J10 is a interm fighter,it doesnt have stealth capability and at most it wasF16C/D block 50 levels China is still behind the schedule if compared to raptor or JSF.The all round Chinese made fighter is due to born in a forseeable future,hopefully will get the one J-XX in next decade.Read more from Kanwa but dont be too serious about Pinkov’s remarks!:D

The French Goverment imposed sanctions of arsenals to israel after the six days war. And the IAI began to reproducing the Mirage (or known as cloning) the as the Nesher. Did the French provided any asistance to help, I dont think they did.It was such a short period for IAI to cloning the Mirage.Beacsue I believe it took about four years(1967-1971) for a country to build aplane for her airforce and israel has no experience building fighter before.The French sold the planes only but they never help how to build a plane. That was very amazing and I respect IAI doing everything( except the engine) from nothing.

Does anyone can provide any news or history about Israeli airaces before 1980s. There were so many aces achieved by Mirages and Neshers. One of I read from AFM was a Nesher pilot known as Spector. And former Israel president Mr. Weizman was a Mirage pilot. Can anyone can tell more,I am ver interesting with IDFAF. Thanks

China should deploy J10 right now and do more to facing India in southwest. India planned to buy 140 Mkis and maybe Backfire bombers, Mirage 2000/5s. China should do faster than India can finish her military explansion plans.
And India is using Agni missles target China’s city, China should do something to stop this!
