That’s a great deal of money being spent just to get a point across.

The U.S. should go. The U.K. and NATO doesn’t need an American presence in their countries. Why are there F-15C’s defending the U.K. when the RAF has the Typhoon?

How good would the MRA4 been at detecting underwater wreckage?

There’s already a PC-7 team. It’s nice to see an aerobatic team on a supersonic jet, but as a tax payer I wouldn’t mind to see the Patrouille Suisse going away. There are more important issues than flying for public events.

I agree, but on a personal level, love the USAF/USN teams, despite their costs.

I don’t see it. What about a turboprop? T-prop trainers are made in the country after all.

There’s a BIG difference between the F-35 and the F-8. First of all, it was designed as a gunfighter with the missiles coming later on. The F-35 is a net-centric multirole aircraft that basically has to fit every combat role in the USAF, USMC, USN and allies. The computer systems alone on the F-35 probably defy belief. I don’t think LM went into the project determined to fail, but came across all of the problems of fitting a square peg into a round hole. Not sure we can compare both aircraft here…

OK. What’s wrong with the T-50 replacing the MiG-31? Speed? Though, I have to admit, I’d love to see a Mach 4 fighter from any nation take flight.

I have a feeling this is all politics and LM will grease as many palms and line as many pockets as necessary to secure an F-35A contract. If the PAF wants a fifth gen. fighter, the F-35 may be their only option. Gripen is great, but it is not a fifth gen. fighter.

I may be coming at this from the wrong angle. I am only considering defense of the CONUS and not being the world’s police force. The U.S. should certainly not get involved in the Ukrainian situation. What about keeping the carriers off-shore? What is the farthest we’d have to project in the pacific? The Marshall Islands, Guam?

Didn’t Iraq order the type last year or the year before? Also, Kenya is reported to have acquired the type. I haven’t seen any pics of that…

No doubt the F-22A is vastly more complex and technical than the F-15C/D. What’s wrong with using F/A-18’s at the coastal bases?

What about the Gripen is cheaper to operate than an F-16?
