I am not sure what use the FAB would have for the Pampa as I imagine the A-29 can provide the same training. Maybe if the FAB wants to replicate the exact jet training experience, they could do so that way.
Gear is proven against what?. Israel cannot even afford to train its atheletes for Olympics on Western standards.
Russia has sold hundreds of fighters in Asia. it has direct input from those airforces to improve it. It simply has a lot more money/Technical resources and leverage with countries that make industrial machines that make the end product.
We’ll have to see. Training athletes for the Olympic games is a little different than the preparation for national defense. It is a question of priorities. My $$$ is on Israel. Selling weapons does not give the customers the ultimate ability in using them.
There have been more of them than I care to think about.
I have a better idea. Why don’t you (& the others who are obsessed with trying to plan an Argentinean conquest of the Falklands) should stick to the topic, which is NOT “How can Argentina invade the Falklands?”. Then, maybe we could have a sensible discussion.
That was my original suggestion. I hid that in the text…
No doubt the S-300 is a very capable system, but I am also confident the Israelis know it just as well, if not better, than the Syrians. A couple of aircraft may be lost in a potential strike, but not enough to force the eventual outcome. I would put the Israeli AF pilots over the MiG-29M2/MiG-35 flown by Russian pilots. Don’t get me wrong, I am not an Israeli fan-boy, though it may seem so. They are just that good.
How would you rebuild the Argentine Air Force given a 2 to 2,5% GDP defence budget….
I’ll quote an old supervisor of mine, “Carefully”. The sexy stuff like fighters would have to wait given that amount. Basic air defense is what that budget calls for and the best place to use those resources is in transport and training and SAR.
how so? I presumed it will be Ruaf if it went there just like permanent Presence of Russian Navy in Mediterranean. Only thing Israal can do is beg in public.
Russia is building new factories with Germanic engineering. so the weopon system will be of high quality. and Pilots training on western standards with salaries comparable or higher than NATO considering low tax.http://www.israelhayom.com/site/newsletter_article.php?id=9673
Budget cut may force IDF to close down units, says defense minister
I’ll bank this purely on the quality of the Israeli Armed Forces. They’re better, simple. Their gear is proven and up to high standards. If you think a dozen MiG-29M2/MiG-35’s or whatever will keep the IASF from destroying their intended targets, you are misled. I love the MiG-29, but I know that an Israeli pilot in an F-15 or F-16I will hastily remove it from the sky. I think the newly-delivered S-300’s are going to be taken out, sooner or later and the MiG-29’s can’t do a thing to stop it.
i just heared the news on the radio here.
Russia to supply MIG-29M/M2 to Syria
according to the Belgian Radio, delivery is anticipated Q4 2013.
Lambs to the slaughter. The IASF will use them for target practice…
I don’t think the MiG-23 would have made any difference, at all. Though it may have been a great chance to meet the F-14A as they covered the evacuation of Saigon. I think the Su-15 would have made a bigger impact on intercepting U.S. aircraft.
Maybe a “Second Falklands War” thread should be opened for all of this?
I do believe Argentina could develop its own combat aviation resources if they had the money to do so. They did build the Pampa and the Pucara as well as upgrade/overhaul their A-4AR fleet. Though not 4th gen. designs, they are indigenous. Do they need such resources? Probably not, however an air arm needs to be proficient in such operations because the cost of letting them slip and renewal is much more than that of maintenance. Maritime patrol and transport should be paramount among the FAA’s priorities. C-295MPA, KC-390, C-130H, Mi-8/17, CH-47?
Most of the NSA’s security tools are open source, there is no need to steal them. Despite, or not, taking the designs through espionage, there is a substantial challenge in reverse-engineering any piece of advanced technology. I give the Chinese credit in that respect.
The PAF should focus more on air defense and ISR assets. I would love to hear the details behind which U.S. and NATO UCAV’s are allowed to operate in their airspace. If I were Pakistan, I would keep them out of my skies and no matter how much money the U.S. gives in aid.
What threats does Argentina currently face? The U.K. is no threat from the Malvinas. Budget money should be placed in areas where the force can be rebuilt to an operational standard. I’d like to see the Argentine Navy with the C-295MPA.
China doesn’t care about getting caught. They feel that if the tech works for us, it’ll work for them and they don’t have to spend billions in engineering it. I’ll bet $20.00 a majority of the data was taken from un-patched, un-secured Windows XP computers.
Argentina has built fighter aircraft in the past and does have the capability, providing it has that capital.
