I hope they have a couple of good simulators.
I don’t see J-10 going anywhere out of PRC.
What about Iran?
Too bad. I would have liked to see that.
All of these shrinking budgets will lead to a diminished capacity in the smaller European air forces. A “why bother?” question comes next for many nations, which can only be answered by a pan-european air force, EUAF.
I still think the reason why the MiG-23 was phased out so quickly is that it wasn’t a very good design. The costs for capability i.e. ROI, offered very little. The MiG-23 is not very maneuverable, offers poor visibility from the cockpit and is a hydraulic nightmare when compared to the Fishbed. European air forces got rid of them almost as soon as the Cold War ended. The MiG-21 was just more economical to air forces with shrinking budgets.
I too like the F/A-18E/F series aircraft, much more sleek than it’s predecessor.
Is the Czech AF going to keep their Gripens when the lease is up?
I’m no fan of UAV/UCAV’s but I have to admit this is pretty cool.
I think it would still depend on the pilots to determine the outcome of this type of engagement. My $$$ is on the F-22A, but I know better than to underestimate an opponent. If given the scenario of IRIAF F-14A’s vs. the F-22A, the USAF will be the clear winner. I think Iran would engage, but the result would be the destruction of some beautiful aircraft. More like the F-22A’s would face IRIAF MiG-29’s. My 2c…
The Gloster Meteor is one of my all time favourite Aeroplanes, mostly due to the part that it reminds me of the de Havilland Mosquito.
The Meteor has very clean lines and is a favorite of mine too.
Are you suggesting PAF wants to establish air supremacy over half of India? That would be insane, but no one shares that insanity.
There’s been threads on this site on WI the Iraqis mounted an all out attack before the coalition built up in 1991. Seems to me this is PAF’s mission in case of war. They’ll hit hard and do as much damage as possible before they get wiped out. JF-17 is a light bomb truck with enough range to do the job, cheap enough to buy and operate in quantity during peace time. Not gonna win a war of attrition anyways, why buy Finbacks? It’s a better interceptor, but so what?
Right…
It can cover almost half of India. Good enough for PAF purposes.
No PAF JF-17 is going to cover half of anything India for very long. To think so is a trip to Fantasy Island.
USSR: MiG-21, and the MiG-29
MiG and Sukhoi merged awhile back, so the two types are stablemates. I would say it depends on the mission, the choice over which type to acquire. If I had to make a single choice, it would be the Su-35.
