Okay but they had just a gun…a GAU ( horrifying monster by the way ). No missiles I mean right ?

The F-104 could carry the AIM-9 and the AIM-7, probably some others as well. It was not a pure gunfighter.

yes f4 can do both role better. mirage had to make two versions and each version is not as good as f4 in that specific role.

Like I said, different class of aircraft.

actually draken and f4 beat f104 and mirage3e hard.

The F-4 is a different class of fighter from the Mirage III or F-104.

The Mirage III flew with many more air arms than the F-104. Some Mirages are still flying today. Also, the platform evolved into the Mirage 2000. The F-104’s design never proceeded further than its own type. The Soviet counterpart to each aircraft, the MiG-21, used a delta wing as well. No one ever adopted the 104’s layout. The F-104 had a more powerful engine, but at a cost to range. The Mirage III had almost double the 104’s combat radius. The sleekness factor favors the F-104 (IMHO), but the Mirage is no slouch in that department either.

I would say the Mirage III is the winner between the two.

“Actually China does not have any place in Asia.”

China will only have the world’s largest economy by 2020, but no place in Asia…

no offence guys intended, but i never thought i would see the day when folks on this forum were unsure if the F-6/J-6 was a Mig-19 copy

I can understand how it might be difficult to determine whether an airframe is a genuine MiG-19 or a J-6. Russian-built MiG-19s would be around sixty years old now and no longer airworthy (unless those MiGs flew for the USAF). Any MiG-19 derivative, still flying, would have to been built in China (like everything else).

The U.S. will probably still be in Afghanistan when this puppy enters service.

Well, if they started a few less wars, there will be plenty of money for flying you know… anyway what a joke , who knows what kind of political crap is happening behind the scenes, 600 BILLION dollars ( six hundred billion!) budget and poor US military has no money for flying, boo-hoo …
Oh and btw, while they’re at it, they should take all these squadrons back in their own country, what are they doing over here, or on the continent…
Not interested in getting into a (nother) political polemic with anyone, just my thoughts on this situation.

I actually agree with you. I think all U.S. forces should be withdrawn from overseas.

The MiG-19 was know as the “widowmaker”, by the Soviets in its day.

I haven’t heard anything regarding AdU S-3’s. The thought might actually come in as an April fool’s joke.

Perhaps. It would be a slaughter for the DPRK, IMHO.

I wouldn’t be surprised at all if this turn out to be true.
