ask the Jews.. they fought against Polish mig-29s and had a lot to say.
There are Jews in the U.S. too…
I can see Egypt going with the JF-17. China may not be too willing to sell the J-10 to anyone that may place it in American hands. Egypt did hand over copies of the MiG-23 and Su-20 during the Cold War. Not that the J-10 is super-sensitive or completely original, but the Chinese will still exercise caution there. More Mirage 2000’s is the only way I see this going.
I would be extremely interested to read opinions of F-15 and MiG-29 pilots about the opponents’ aircraft during exercises, something like the F-16 vs MiG-29 stories published. Is there any similar style F-15 vs MiG-29 article somewhere by any chance ? Thanks.
I’ll bet my bottom dollar such engagements have been played out over the desert skies of Nevada. MiG-29A/C vs. F-15A/C.
The F-15 has much longer legs than the MiG-29 and can stay on station longer. An A-model F-15 would not be able to launch more advanced missiles like the AIM-9X, perhaps even the AMRAAM (?). What can a MiG-29M bring to the fight other than the R-27, R-60 and R-73? Not that those weapons are not effective in their own rights…
Weren’t most of them destroyed?
The remaining units in storage are hardly airworthy and the few(?) flyable samples presumably are used to test other systems.
I do not believe so… Perhaps some whose airframes had little time left on them, or were not salvageable, were scrapped. Even then, if there is the slightest chance they would be reactivated, grounded airframes would be a great source of spare parts.
I still think it matters a great deal whom is in the cockpit. Both aircraft are very good, but a better pilot can make all of the difference. My $$$ is on the F-15.
The F-117’s were retired a few years ago. They remain in flyable storage in their old desert home, at Tonopah. Theoretically, the could be brought back into service, but that would be a significant exercise. The USAF would have to find pilots that were current on the type, preferably IPs, then get them current again. Each aircraft, brought back into service, would have to be slightly refurbished and brought to airworthy status. AFAIK, the USAF still runs the engines on some examples, so there wouldn’t be too much to do there. One F-117 was even seen flying around Area-51 bac kin 2010. Next, would come the integration with the USAF’s current battle plan, which left the F-117 out. I don’t think they could even deploy GPS-guided munitions at this point.
North Korea cannot do much to affect any advantage on the South. The U.S. and RoKAF forces are too well-equipped for a stand up fight. The best thing they could do is take-out RADAR and warning stations, along the border, in the first wave or artillery attacks. This would temporarily blind the South and allow the fog of war to perpetrate. The North knows their air force would be cut to pieces, eventually. I do not think the DRPK’s AF will be dispatched as quickly as the South would hope, but their fate would be sealed the moment the first shots rang out. Nukes would be used as a last bargaining chip to stave off complete destruction of the DRPK state. China may provide small arms and intel, but that is it.
I think it would be manned, with an option to have it “optionally manned” in later blocks. It was written around when the JSf started that this would be the last manned fighter, and that UCAV’s will be taking over most missions into the future. Fast forward, the JUCAS , X-45,47 etc are going no where, the USAF next big project LRS-B will most likely be manned.
We’ll see… There is still the financial aspect of the project. The U.S. government isn’t in the best position for such ventures.
UCAV
I do not think a 6th gen aircraft will be a manned design. The F-35 may very well be the last manned fighter the U.S. produces. It also may be the last fighter the U.S. produces at all…
The DPRK has nuclear weapons with a very young and perhaps naive person holding the keys. They will threaten and sabre-rattle on that until they get what they want. Facing the U.S. and the South, they will perish and dear leader could care less about that.
The picture was probably too big for the forum.

you so bias because thats all you have left. you fail because china could export j10 but russia cannot export su34 because you know when russia export su34 it will be very expensive!! also you are ignorant because iraq use chinese airplane before too
I could be wrong, but those look like Egyptian Tu-16’s (made in Russia).
Thanks! We have some great pics in this thread.
