Post ww2 America has been anything but isolationist, feel good sentiment aside.
The American government is far from isolationist, the American people could mostly care less about world affairs.
Too early to tell?
Is it a bit too early to tell, with any kind of certainty, how capable the J-20 is? There is not much around in the form of concrete information regarding the type. I also think that I have a better chance of procuring a J-20 than Argentina. The J-10 seems to be a bit more realistic.
Patriot
I am an American patriot, but will be the first to call out my country on any B.S. they may be producing. The world can thank the U.S. for the events that transpired in Iran and for the revolution.
I don’t think the middle east would have suddenly blossomed into a peaceful place, but it sure would be much different now.
F-16
The IIAF was slated to receive the F-16 very early on. I have seen photos online of some example painted in IIAF markings, which were, in turn, sold (given) to Israel.
Had Iran remained friendly to the West, the could have very well been caught up in the present F-35 debacle.
The IIAF may have even been a customer for the F-15E, or even F-16E/F.
The F-14A’s could have been superseded by retired USN airframes.
Mi-17’s
Didn’t Argentina purchase three Mi-171E’s (on credit), in 2010, with an option for three more?

Lease
What about Argentina leasing the Mirage 2000’s from France or the UAE?
Are these the solutions though?
Both are relatively shortranged jets.
It may be better than pilfering spares and perhaps even airframes from retired French Super Etendards. I don’t think it would be that much of a stretch to fit a JF-17 with an IFR probe. Also, this is where retired Mirage F1’s could become a decent possibility (though very remote, IMHO).
The solutions have been posted ad nauseum. Second-hand Mirage 2000’s or something from China (JF-17) is what the FAA will wind-up with in the end. The possibility of obtaining some surplus F-16’s from Portugal or other NATO countries is there as well. I’d like to see the FAA with some F-16’s. Malvinas or not, to be anything close to a potent force, the FAA needs newer equipment than what it currently has flying.
Great Responses
Thanks for the insightful responses thus far.
Well most observers agree that the “6th Generation” requirement is so far removed from the current reality (in terms of budget and hardware) that its hardly worth speculating on what type of intakes it may or may not employ.
After all, it will just as likely use directed energy weapons to defeat close in threats, so maneuverability is neither here nor there….;)
++1
The U.S. economy will not survive long enough to design and build something like that. Sadly… Given what has transpired from LM with the F-35 project, any clear expectation of results from initial projections is unrealistic.
Strike Flanker
Presenting the Su-27UB ‘Strike Flanker’.
The c/s looks nice, but too ‘USAF’ for me. If it were my aircraft, I would go with air superiority grey and full-color markings.
The whole white boys club mentality is getting old and has to go.
Really?
Even at full power, it won’t rip the hook from the airframe?
