Interdictor
If the J-20 is actually stealthy, it would be an ideal interdiction platform.

Wow!!
Now this is going to change things a little for the USN!!
I’ve always thought it ironic how the USN chose to 1/ ignore the PRC threat; 2/ ignored the reality that another nation could and would employ the likes of Raduga Kh-22 (AS-4 βKitchenβ) sales and use by other nations other than the Soviet Union / Russia in saturation attacks against its fleet/carrier battle groups!Does this mean we might see a the USN scrambling to resurrect a VFX type requirement? I’ve always been dubious of the USN putting all its eggs into the F/A-18E/F series!!
You have to give the PRC full credit for pulling this deal off!
Note: I guess by the PRC purchasing the Tu-22M3 production line, this will deny India the opportunity to potentially counter this threat with their own purchase of the only viable and accessible maritime strike bomber like the Backfire!
I’m confident 36 x aircraft will only be the beginning of the total numbers that enters service with the PLAAF & PLAN!Regards

I would be concerned when I start seeing H-10’s actually enter service with the PLAN. It would take awhile for the crews to become operational on the new type and for the PLAN to integrate it into their tactics. Though, this and the carrier significantly boost the PLAN’s offensive combat capability.
I also wouldn’t write-off the Super Hornet. The E/F/A-18E/F/G is a very potent platform with lots of growth potential. There is also the F-35C which will eventually come down the pike. Those are just the aircraft in USN service. The AEGIS system is very capable of dealing with the Tu-22 threat, from any nation.
guess the operator π
I thought this was an F-5 thread, that is a MiG-28 π
Has the J-20 been given a NATO codename yet?
From Wikipedia,
“MiG 1.42/42 Primary version which may go onto production; the functions are better than that of the 1.44. NATO named it “Foxglove”.
MiG 1.44 Demonstrator prototype with failed upgrades; will remain a demonstrator. 2 have been built. NATO named it “Flatpack”.”
No
Apple is not a Chinese product, regardless of where they are assembled. It has western standards in quality control, design, tolerances etc. Most importantly – it has western branding, marketing, style, western recognition.. And it is priced accordingly – up to western standards.
The first Chinese brand that has at least somehow got into my ears is Huawei. Well, let us ignore the fact that most marketing for that company is made by the British – the thing is would you buy Huawei if it was say 20% cheaper than Apple?
I would opt for quality over price.
Rest in Peace, Sir

Opinion
Not all Chinese made items are cheap crap. Apple Macintosh computers are made in China, like everything else, and they are of great quality. Apple’s manufacturing specs place the bar very high. I am not speaking as an Apple fanboy, but as an IT pro that has worked with both types for the last decade. I would put a Mac over a Dell or HP in quality, any day. IMHO

what is the stealth advantage?
i mean, these components can be built entirely of composites, so aren’t/don’t need to be radar reflecting anyways.
The fins would have to be canted at angle equal to others on the aircraft to be stealthy. That, along with RAM and anti-RADAR construction
TBH
The J-20 and J-31 are prototypes, to this date. I’ll regale Chinese aircraft tech when they are in squadron service. Still, both types are a great achievement for China (and Pakistan :))
Two threads same discussion?
Maybe AESA and Sino-European manufacture could use it’s own thread?
Onboard RADAR
The absence of AWACS link has been the excuse for nearly every USAF flaw in their performance since the first Cope India was held in 2004.
It doesn’t matter if Su-30 and MiG-21 aren’t stealth if they are not emitting the only way to detect them is by visually identification.
Doesn’t the F-15 and the F-22 have an onboard RADAR that could warn them of oncoming targets? I am not sure how well that would do from an attack coming from behind. If the MiGs and Sukhois fly silent, how would they find the stealthy F-22 and not-so-stealthy F-15? GCI intercept?
Fully loaded?
longest yes,
largest no.Gripen can take off and land from a 400 m runway.
A ship sailing at 30 knots will shorten this distance. Then throw in TVC to Gripen and you could land Gripen on a 300 m runaway, although hook and arrest wires would still be required in case of a bad weather.
For STOL operation, a fighter jet has to be a Eurocanard with a TVC engine to generate lift at both front and back to reduce approach speed.
Takeoff in 400m, while loaded with stores?
RADAR?
Supposing they were emitting like Christmas trees.
What about traditional RADAR, those two aren’t stealth aircraft? Any F-22 is going to operate in theatre with AWACS coverage.
A well flown Mig 21 is worth half a dozen badly flown F22’s or F35’s . Apart from the fact that most F15’s &22’s are hangar queens because they are over complicated & , 22’s didnt work in the first place & most US aircraft technicians are not the best in the world . In fact most of them couldnt pass a simple trade test !!!!
Mig 21’s are run , by most airforces , like 50’s & 60’s American cars in Cuba . Duck tape/ epoxy resin & a big tin of Hammerite ..& the ******s still do 1500mph ….
What goes round come round –The West is now designing Drones !!! Yea most being SE5a’s & Sopwith Camels with a computer on board …& made of kevlar !!
Give China & India another couple of years & the west /usa is going to look pretty ” Old Hat “
There is such a thing as being ” Too Clever “
Not sure I would go that far, though I agree with much of what you are stating. The X-47 is hardly a Sopwith Camel, same for the Predator and the Reaper, despite my dislike for those types. No prop-driven drone will go into airspace that is not under allied control. The F-15 and F-22 are more complex than a MiG-21. USAF evaluations showed the MiG-21 to be a very reliable and sturdy aircraft (Red Eagles, Google the author). That ’57 Chevy is being compared with an ’81 and ’98 Mustang, not a fair comparison.
