Hi, Did you also increase the colour saturation, say the yellow, as this also adds to the graininess of the picture. I have also had the same problem in the past. Also USM increases the size and contrast of the darker pixels, so if there are a lot of them in the picture the will become more pronounced.
This is what i have discovered anyway.
I try only to use USM or contrast enhancement, not both.
Best of luck 😉

Has anyone any veiws on v. wide angle lens’.
Although 28mm used to be classed as wide angle, on my digital body it becomes less so.
I am not looking to spend too much money on one as i’m not sure how much use it would get. I have seen (cheaper) makes such as Cosina etc at bargain prices, but at how much of a loss of quality? Also the Canon 18-55mm has had bad press.
Any recommendations?
Thanks

Hi!
I also use a 135-400mm Sigma lens with a 10d body, i find it’s a great combination. Sure it might not be as fast as other more expensive lenses, and the 10d body may not be all singing and dancing, but it does make me think more about my photgraphy and the type of shots i want to achieve, which in the long run should make me a better photographer.
If anyones on a budget i can highly recommend both this body and lens.
Incidently i also have a Sigma 28-105mm f2.8 lens and rate this highly.Check out some pics at
