Agree with Moggy, and will be writing to complain especially as the content of an arrivals day is very hit and miss. From memory I don’t think last years Friday before Legends had as much to offer as previous years. So another bewildered FOD, IWM what are you playing at!?
There’s definitely no buses during the week that run to East Kirkby. I was visiting Coningsby for the first time a few weeks ago and made the trip up from London by train mid week. Im a keen walker but there were few footpaths negotiable because of mud and water, obviously this will change during summer but I still couldn’t find many paths. I think EK was about 8 miles from Coningsby and there are a few good cab services around if you’ve got the cash, for me it seemed the only way to cover any distance quick you really need a car for the area.
Coningsby is well worth a visit though if your going to be going to East Kirkby, its like a taxi rank for Eurofighters with few Harriers and Tornados thrown into the mix.
For B&B I stayed at The Old Coach House Motel which was in North Kyme about 3-5 miles from Coningsby, it was pricey though at £49 a night!
The french guy at Legends rambled on about it for the entire weekend of 2008. I was surprised to see her again in 2009, considering the amount of time spent talking about her being “put to rest”.
Didnt he just! But then as you say it returned. Hoping that bloody French guy Melv is not commentating at next Legends, but you can guarantee he will be there to talk over everything again!! Pink Lady can come back though of course:D
I would agree Beaulieu airfield has miles of lovely walks on old runway and tracks. You can still find recognisable bits from the wartime airfield, https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=beaulieu+airfield&rlz=1C1GCEA_enGB758GB758&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwjih67F-t_YAhUFCcAKHZg9CjUQ_AUICygC&biw=1366&bih=662#imgrc=pSbPZ5Y_Bnj7BM: Also taking in nearby Roundhill campsite which still has the original second world war water tower.
de Havilland Dragonfly and friend, (a small biplane, Auster maybe?), at Headcorn this afternoon.
Spitfire MJ627 was very active from Biggin Hill today. I heard so many take offs today so it could have been more than one spit doing flights.
It was T28 G-TROY returning to DX after a paint job at BH.
Thanks Roobarb!
Out of Biggin Hill this afternoon, over Orpington – Grumman Wildcat. I saw small roundels on lightblue underside. TFC’s Wildcat has invasion stripes so am I wrong on type? Meaty Radial anyhow:D
Two Spitfires together spotted going at a fair speed today, one with D-Day markings, one without. Possible camera ship following after. Both spits from Biggin Hill.
On Saturday (yesterday!) a Dragon Rapide flying over Hackney, Clissold Park at 3PM.
Spitfire (2 seater, so MJ627?) up and down from Biggin Hill throughout the afternoon today dodging the showers.
Spitfire MJ627 heading back towards Biggin Hill late afternoon en route from Duxford. Have just seen a pic of it on DX Diary too.
A two-seater Spitfire was holding off/doing a good few circuits, before heading back toward Biggin Hill at about midday today. Probably MJ627 but I was wondering if it could have been MT818.
On Saturday, saw the De Havilland Dragonfly followed by a Chipmunk, then BHHH Cub and at least 2 WW1 Era Bi-Planes. (I don’t know if there was a tiger moth in there as well). All were heading back into Biggin Hill.
Today about 1PM, the red De Havilland Dragon was out from Biggin Hill, overflying Chelsfield followed closely by a Chipmunk.
