Yesterday at about 16:00 I saw what appeared to be the Buchon flying east to west roughly following the line of the A120, on his way to Jersey I thought, but, silly boy, that was yesterday wasn’t it, it’s not booked for Leuchars either so where was that going, in pretty foul conditions too.
Again, a couple of visits from the Cat this week, it seems to get more flight time than any other vintage type that I know.
Another mystery, last sunday at more or less the time that DX Airshow would be finishing we had a high speed pass from a P-51 and what looked like the Hellcat, heading back towards DX, I wonder where they had been.
That was TFC’s P-51 Miss Velma and Corsair getting back from France after Duxford September Show on Sunday, I was still there when they landed at DX. They had been at the Laval Airshow I beleive.
They wouldlike to attend legends if they were asked, but speaking to them, the powers that be who organise the even want the ‘foreign’ birds to come over rather than see this fine bird. Id love to see PM’s spit at legends and like to see it more than twice a year. I hoped it would’ve been at shoreham, but it wasnt 🙁
I totally agree its a real shame and a surprise and considering it was at Legends and Shoreham last year you would think they would book it again. But with regards to Legends there are plenty of Spitfires at Duxford and so they would perhaps think it not worth going further a field than Duxford for Spitfires.
Spitfire MK IX TA 805 ‘The Kent Spitfire’ circled round twice, very low over my work near Sevenoaks today at around 4PM ish. Good to hear that merlin again! It hasnt been out and about much this year and wasnt a Legends either.
The Catalina obviously on route from DX to Shoreham at 3:45 this afternoon, I spotted it flying over Shoreham village near Sevenoaks.
I was at Headcorn on Saturday and there was a Me 108 in nearly exact markings obviously it wasnt the one that crashed, was there a pair of them then?
Spitfire today
Spitfire MkIX, probably TA 805 performing a spirited display over Shoreham village this afternoon. I think it was something to do with the Battle of Britian museum.
Loved it when he started to talk philosophical about how we might have come from the stars or placed here by aliens or something. I thought it was brilliant that a commentator dared to make his mind wander a bit.
Yeah definitely.:D
Apologies if this is completely wrong but on the return home from Legends on Saturday I thought I saw a black tailed Mustang parked up at North Weald from the motorway. Of course I could have just had Mustangs on the brain but Im sure it had a black tail and so has BBD.
We were between the American Hanger & Tanks. It was impossible NOT to hear the commentary which was very loud. Some info is always good, but not during the fly past please. The engine sound is “Music” to our ears. If I listen to what’s on youtube now chills run down my spine when I hear the commentators drowning out the engine sound. Those two gentlemen perhaps did their best to entertain, but please……not again next year!
I do agree with what you say to an extent, thats not to say the commentary as you say wasnt of great interest, but it was quite funny when the French commentator was rambling off on almost philosophical tangents which does definitely affect the music of the engines at times. Got to love Legends though best show in the world without a doubt.
More worryingly, didn`t anyone notice the serious misfire or detonation that the French P-40 had on Sunday?
It did it during its entire take-off run and during much of the display.Apparently it had been worked on on Saturday at some point, but I don`t know if there is a connection.
Pete
Something had to be wrong with the engine it was the roughest sounding Allison engine Ive ever heard in that it was verging on sounding like a Griffon. And when compared for example to that Blue Yak 3A which sounded super smooth it was clear to notice the difference.
Well said that man! Its amazing to think after seeing a Spitfire display myself just this afternoon that its still alive.
Saw ‘The Kent Spitfire’ Mk9 doing a really tight 10 minute display over Shoreham Village at 3:30 this afternoon.
just seen b-17 liberty belle fly over orpington on her way to biggin, magnificent!.
Im also in Orpington and heard it fly over, my mum saw it though, gutted!
Spitfire over the River Medway near Chatham today at about 13:15. Too far away to tell which one as I’ll I could make out was a silhouette. Anyway fancy a guess?
Heard a merlin at about 1:30 heading into Biggin Hill, its got be ‘The Kent Spitfire’ TA805.
You describe the most perfect of flights you lucky chap! How much is the Lanc flight costing now last I heard it was perhaps a couple of thousand dollars?
