On Sunday afternoon, I saw the red De Havilland Dragon, out from Biggin Hill.
Spotted the red De Havilland Dragon out of Biggin Hill this afternoon. Nice
A pointy tail mk9 fairly low over lymington 5mins ago.. heading towards the IOW.. Sounded lovely by the way :o)
Saw 2 Spitfires this afternoon, MJ627 I think, playing over Halstead, Kent. Followed slightly later by invasion striped Mk9 (TA805?) returning to Biggin Hill before departing again. Made the day anyhow!
A Spitfire I think, (possibly a Hurricane but less likely) low under the rain cloud heading out from Biggin Hill this evening.
14:30 today, Spitfire Mk V (I think), markings DV-V (?), beautiful (and very low) 10mins flying display just south of Lewes, East Sussex. Does anyone know why? If the pilot is reading this, or anyone is in touch with him/her, please pass on my thanks for an unexpected, but very welcome, distraction from the garden chores.

Spitfire EE602 was at Damyns Hall airshow, it was from Biggin Hill. I saw this lovely spitfire recently at a local village fair displayed by Dan Griffiths.
A bit of a late posting, but saw a Dakota with wheels down going into Biggin Hill on Friday afternoon. It looked white although it was glinting in the sun so it could have been chrome (maybe the Norwegian one?).
Saw Biggin Hill based spit MJ627 over Halstead at about 3PM today. Also saw it yesterday and on Monday accompanied by spitfire TA805. 🙂
Two Spitfires out of Biggin Hill at about 4PM. Both formed up as a pair and headed out toward M25. Two seat MJ627 and a MK9, not sure which one though.
ME 109G in the clear blue over Halstead, Kent going like the clappers towards Biggin Hill at about 1:30-2PM yesterday:D
A Spitfire, possibly a two seater, (so perhaps MJ627) heading back in the direction of Biggin Hill at 2:40.
Did MkVs have invasion stripes? I thought they were well out of front line service in the UK by 1944.

Hi, Johnny Checketts was commanding a wing of 3 MKVb squadrons, British (130), Polish (303) and Canadian (402) over Caen behind the beachhead at first light on D-Day, in support of bombers and gliders carrying paratroops, according to his Biography (a good read).
Hello all
I am currently researching the loss of Bf109E 5370 on the 29th October 1940. The aircraft was shot down by F/O Nelson of 74 Sqn and the pilot Lt Tornow was killed when the aircraft crashed at Dodds Farm, Langton Green, Kent. I believe the pilot was attempting to force land and hit trees, shearing off the wings.
I have managed to find a picture of Lt Tornow, however I was wondering if any images exist showing the crashed aircraft at Dodds Farm. I would also be very interested in any eye witness accounts.
A lot to ask I know, but any help would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks..
Hi, this might not immediately be of help but a visit to the museum at Headcorn, Kent, might be a good place to start. The Farm you mention Im sure I have seen mentioned there. The wealth of different parts and photographs of crashed aircraft both British and German from 1940 specifically from Kent in BofB has to be worth checking, its open on Sundays I think.

A Dragon Rapide Red/silver over Orpington, from Biggin Hill I think.
Gotta agree on the Mustang – stunning.
I wish ‘Twilight Tear’ was still on the scene, those two schemes together.
Here’s mine.
The highlight of the airshow season for me was the solo display by P-51 ‘Moonbeam McSwine’ at Legends, on that first pass it sounded like a Mustang from Reno such was the speed!
Luckily I saw both lancasters after take off from Biggin Hill from my garden 🙂
