    Cheers

    Ben

    BBMF Coningsby Today

I saw the determination of BBMF today as both Spitfire and Hurricane taxied out to the runway. A huge cross wind was blowing a gale and every time the pair lined up for takeoff the wind pulled the tail round 45 degrees. They gave up in the end and taxied back to the hangar. The Dakota did get up but it took about 3 or 4 attempts to land as the wind was so strong the tail wheel just wouldnt touch the ground and looked as though it would nose over for sure. I viewed it all from the top of Tattershall castle, thanks BBMF for flying the Dak directly over me twice before managing to land!

Just heard that 4 of 11 typhoons that went up yesterday have ash related issues. Presumably this means that there is literally no Typhoons going up now which would include the practice displays for the coming display season.

Not sure you will see those at Flying Legends

Sorry shouldn’t have quoted you Yak 11, its gonna be a great line up though, well worth the tube trip. I did a dummy run yesterday and it seemed easy. Although I couldn’t find any great viewing areas around the field in prep for arrivals.

take the tube to Epping at the end of the Central Line – you can then get a cab or bus to the the airfield.

Perfect thanks Mark V, hopefully it can be done on a travel card, its zone 7 I think.

Please, if anyone can advise how can I get to North Weald at the weekend, I dont have my own transport so am looking at trains or buses. I will scour the internet now but thought someone with previous experience of getting there would know. Im in Orpington so I would be going via central London.
    Any help is appreciated.

    Tiger Club at Headcorn

A nine ship formation of Tiger club planes over Headcorn this afternoon. Consisting of I think 4 tiger moths, a Buker Jungmann, a cub and three Tiny planes (cant remember what they are). All nine did two flybys then the tiger moths and jungmann did some more flybys. Really nice to see.

    ‘The One That Got Away’

I read somewhere that ‘Stapme’ was thought to be the pilot that shot down Franz Von Werra over Kent during the Battle of Britain. Thus it would mean that Von Werras’ captivity and depiction in the film ‘The One That Got Away’ was the result of this dogfight with ‘Stapme’. Can anyone confirm this as I might have read it in his book but cannot remember?
