Wow, it does seem an age since I started this thread, and my site expanded far more than I could have imagined, thanks to anyone on here, including Dev One, who has sent stuff.
Glad to see the Ian Allan book is out, must find a copy, I was offered it first off, but it would have been beyond me, glad something came of the idea.
I wonder if a photo of 222 or 223, complete and at Weybridge, will ever turn up!

The prototype showed the capability of the airframe and later the engines, also towards the end I understand that a number of high speed hands off terrain following runs were made across the peak district. However they were still some way from having a service ready aircraft. >>
One tiny nit-pick
The one TSR2 that flew did not have any avionics beyond basic radio and simple nav. The first to have the radar fitted was XR221, the third aircraft, which was due to fly in May 1965.
XR219 made one low level terrain following flight, over the oennines north east of Warton, without radar or autopilot, so yes, it was far from service ready. No specific engine tests were undertaken, many of the flights 219 did were spent trying to get the undercarriage up.

Thanks for that, appreciated

Thanks for posting this – I was a Flight Test Engineer on the Jaguar team back in 1970 and am passing this around my contacts. Sorry to be ignorant, but what serial is the aircraft depicted, is this the last one flying in the UK, another thread says it will make its last flight on 20 Dec.
Are there any plans to keep one serviceable, if only for taxis? I know of the location of the preserved prototypes/development aircraft, but with the wirthdrawal of the last squadron aircraft this year, is one (or more) being kept safe – if nothing else Jaguars might be needed again if the RAF keeps fighting battles! And Jaguars are clearly much loved if this forum is anything to go by!!

Mega thread. Maybe getting silly with the hints that are being made but so what? You don’t get anywhere if you don’t dream. I see 320 psi is around this evening. I’d value his opinion on what might be possible with a few old bits seeing the miracles he already performs with his old birds.
Just a couple of questions. What does TSR stand for and if this was no 2 what was no 1?
Thanks for the kind comments and inputs etc, appreciated. If any one has photos (of 1965-vintage) that they would allow me to place on my web site, I’d love to have them, steve@stevebroadbent.net. – equally if you have genuine hardware as a souvenir and could send me a photo, just for the record, it will be of inetrest I am sure.
I was always told that TSr1 was the Swordfish, but that is a long time ago!!

I have just had a look in ‘UK Flight Testing Accidents 1940-197, Derek Collier Webb, Air-Britain where that one is noted, but there is nothing on a Vulcan for September of that year or the years either side.
Yes, I had checked that, and the TSR2 text books – thanks to all the relevant replies posted here, and wow, aren’t some of you sensitive (and yes, I have lost eight frienda and work colleagues in air accidents over the years, and no, I am not particularly an enthusiast and had no idea a Vulcan was about to fly, after all this is the historic section)
I am researching TSR2 history and am trying to tie down that date, I have an eye witness who saw the Vulcan run off the end of the X-runway while XR219 was blocking the main, but maybe it wasn’t as seriously damaged as he thought.

TSR2 Memories
Hi guys…. huge apologies, after posting the original message on this thread I got caught up in doemstic issues and totally forgot I had posted it, so many thanks to those who followed it up, blush blush!!
From another source I have recently been snowed under with memories, and I am now starting to publish them at http://www.stevebroadbent.net/tsr2memories.html
If you actually worked on TSR2, or have a relation who did and get him/her to contribute, then do send me anyhing genuine oyu owuld like to see ther – I don’t seem to be able to access the attachments to this thread, and again I would love to see any “new” old photos. It’s a bit of social history I am trying to record. More details on the site – but no supposition of what ifs, just persoanl recollections, which I appreciate may not be factually true after all these years.
Many apologies again for not having monitored this these past nine months
