I was under the impression that T2 was closing and being demolished to make way for the new Heathrow East Terminal, not because of lack of traffic.

Well it’s both – BAA have deliberately left T2 empty and without traffic in order that they can say “look it’s empty” pull it down and build Heathrow East.
