Neil,
Welcome to the madhouse, however Ian sold that cockpit a few years ago to another guy whose a member here (also a Neil)
Thus….

However the cockpit was an unflown ‘boiler-plate’ or ‘space-model’ from Dunsfold and not the real XW272. More details (and photo’s) in this thread….

Don’t you just love the search function….. ๐

….I intend to go back once the Museum is open for visitors and have a better look around. I’ll take some more pics and post them here if people are interested.
And the Whirlwind, dont forget the Whirlwind ๐ฎ
.
Yes.
.
If we split them into another forum, I think there is less chance of us all enjoying them as they come up.
Why ?
Other parts of the Key forums have their own sub-forums (and some very little usage they receive as well); can’t Historic have a sub-forum then ?
I’m just itching to launch the “Post your Hillson Bi-mono pic’s here” thread :diablo:
.
Yes a sub-forum for such photo’s within the Historic forum is a very good idea. After all, the others have sub-forums eg: missiles & munitions (yes really !!!)
Who could action this… moderators or webbie ?
.
Just “an observation”, i wondered over to the photographic forum and back again. Couldn’t help but notice it’s 3 sub sections, entitled….
Tutorial, Airshow Photo’s and Civil Aircraft none of which seem best to cover photo’s of Historic types per se.
.
David,
I have Tim’s book, i will re-read more carefully, thanks.
Surprised by the other replies stating only one bomb though. Is it just SAC aircraft that had multiple targets then ?
Cheers….

I think Blue Steel was the nuclear deterrent in which case it would be one weapon per aircraft.
Nope…. after Blue Steel. The period when Polaris took over the nuclear deterrant and the V-force reverted to conventional bombing and tactical nuclear weapons.
Perhaps on a ‘real’ mission they would have carried the bomb bay fuel tank and maybe 3 weapons ?
.
Can we have a Hillson Bi-Mono thread pleeeese ?
.
Nice photo’s HP81, thanks for sharing.
Which is the raison d’รชtre for this and similiar threads. Hope you don’t get stoned against a wall as a result ๐ฎ
The Midge was a pale blue with red codes, and my guess at the others would be XK739, XK740 and XK741.
.
I say, steady on Pete. Only a minority are allowed to post photo’s these days. :diablo:
.
Three words….. POT, KETTLE, BLACK
So…. it’s ok praise and savour such photo’s as those posted by DT (aka ‘Postfade’), but if anyone else has a photographic contribution to the ‘historic’ forum, then it’s brickbats not bouquets ?
Fine by me…. i shall seriously have to reconsider if such photo’s from normally private collections should be shared in future.
Obviously it’s ~not~ taken as a bit of harmless fun that isn’t hurting anyone (after all why L@@K at a particular thread if you know what it’s gonna be about ?), unlike yet more bitching and in-fighting about XH558 etc, etc…..
