Basel 😡 …the competition airport to get SWISS’s long-haul fleet….. oh well….hopefully, they’ll go to GVA instead…
is that Zurich ? grrrr…..crap crap airport, great pic…. i want them to come to GVA instead…but once im there…i guess from july 10th onwards…..Southampton Parkway (where i am right now) isn’t exactly the busiest of airports…though now it isn’t too bad with flybe…. i’ll post some pics once i get a decent connection, cause right now im on a 56k modem….grr……
After a rather heated debated, today was the day that the swiss federal council decided not to give SWISS anything… but no, they didnt keep the same management…the crossair management stepped in from the swissair one….and crossair WAS a fairly profitable airline…now we’ll just wait and see what happens…either way, they better last till Mid-July, ’cause that’s about when they should be moving their long-haul fleet to GVA (which is one of their supposed cost-cutting measures)…
“According to the Minsiter of Transportation, The current situation in SWISS is NOT comparable to that of swissair in 2001….it is not for the state to meddle in the affairs of a private company” (taken from the Tribune de Geneve)
does this mean that the Swiss Gov’t might start a NEW Swiss??
just a thought: do the figures referring to 747s take into account freighters? because as far as I know, there is no dedicated freighter version of A340s/330s, so it would be a bit of a boost to their figures…true, they’re still getting sold, but airbus is not competing against them in that area, so their numbers are misleading….
this is definitely the worst….not a lot of restaurants or shopping opportunities, and not a hell of a lot of variety in terms of airlines…the only thing i can say for it is the location and the closeness to the actual airplanes 😀

on a more serious note, the first time i flew into this place (Do228 i think), i almost had a heart attack
i actually rather like schiphol…. though arlanda (stockholm) isn’t too bad…i ahte LHR tho….i guess it must be cause it’s always so chaotic….but that’s just my taste….
syrian air “regularly” flies the SP into heathrow….so that would be my best guess…
i agree with inter’s post…but there are also other things people should take into account…for example, the A340 came into service quite a few years before the 777, and therefore it is logical that the B777 should perform a bit better (after all, if you can benefit from newer technology and still not make a better-performing plane, then you should find something else to do)….
if we’re talking about aesthetics (how big or lond something looks), then maybe the B777s engines are a little out of proportion (the newer ones will have the cross-section of a 737!)…
i guess overall, i simply prefer airbus…but then again, taste is an individual thing
i’ve heard alitalia havethem on the (ceiling?)…
ok…..i shrank the file size to 88Kb….and this is what it looks like….horrible quality
“here’s a frequent visitor to GVA in the summer season…sorry about the quality, but my laziness doesnt let me walk the two blocks down to the runway to take the pic :D”
you also have to remember that given the same set of requirements, everyone is bound to come up with much the same things (just slightly modified)…
dan, im not too sure about this…some european airlines use both big and small planes
some examples are:
SWISS- MD11, A330, A32X, MD83
KLM- B767, B737
LH- A300-600, B73X
and others
maybe its just that they’re getting old?
as soon as i get a scanner, i’ll post some of the older pics (such as the St. Maarten one, though one of my friends had gotten it scanned)….i’ll post one or two pics taken here in GVA later today
would’ve been nicer if they ordered CRJs though…that way it doesnt feel like u’re mowing the lawn:D
Isn’t this St. Maarten? I took a picture of a few planes landing when i went tere about 4 years ago….most of the caribbean islands have good spots to see planes and take photos.
