just one word andrew: niiiiiiiiiiiice 😎
dont get me started on IB….almost every time i’ve flown on them, i’ve wanted to try skydiving instead….
Last year, i did GVA-MAD-EZE-MAD-GVA…
GVA-MAD i must admit was alright…maybe even good….but from then on….
MAD-EZE was an A340 with seats that would make Franco’s chief torturer proud….. and it’s the last thin anyone wants on a 14 hour flight……
to top things off, on arriving at EZE, the plane bounced 2 times before finally settling…i’d normally let it go (you can blame it on the pilot not being familiar with the airport), except for the fact that EZE-MAD, the 340 bounced not twice, but thrice (3 times)! again the seats were a torture….
AND
MAD-GVA had a funny story behind it…
flight was supposed to leave from (could it be?) B31 (not too sure of the gate numbers at MAD), and 5 minutes into when the flight should have departed, the gate was changed to B21…..so off we went…..up, right, down……B21, here we are!…….15 minutes later, no sign of our airplane, and the gate is changed to……B31!!!so we go up, left down….. believe it or not, this happened 4 times over the space of an hour, before we were sent to an altogether different gate, and bussed out to a replacement airplane….
the only other times before that i have flown with IB (MIA-MAD-GVA), the DC10 doing MIA-MAD had even worse seats than the A340 ones, AND the flight arrived late at MAD, which meant we lost our connection and were put on a SR flight……oh, and yes, our bags ended up in FRA by some unusual handling……all in all, rather frustrating…
you are completely right in that the date (sorry, i know it as damascus) palm and swords are national symbols of Saudi Arabia
“The date palm tree represents vitality and growth.
The crossed swords symbolize justice and strength rooted in faith” (taken from the-saudi.net)
When taken together, it is usually interpreted as i said before.
However, good eye noting the Crescent, as i had failed to do this, and i am sure that they have used this as you said…
i can see why ure angry at SWISS pulling out….at least we have Saudia, Kuwait, Thai, IranAir, Royal Jordanian, Continental, etc……
im guessin the matthew breckenridge pictures are yours?
lol….did u actualy get the KAL picture or not?
actually, it is a steelDRUM, which is a caribbean musical instrument…. they use it in trinidad’s carnival every year…pretty good carnival too
actually, when flying into ZRH, i often get the feeling that im on a rollercoaster, with the airplane getting some hard crosswinds (especially rolercoastery on SWISSs 320s)….anyone else flown in and felt like that?
the tail is a damascus tree crossed by two swords. it means “no prosperity without justice”
makes you feel a lot safer about flying them :p
thanks for the comments…..it’s interesting to notice that in the Saudia website, the drawings of their airplanes show a reversed colour scheme: white on top, and (sand??yellow??) on the bottom, which (at least on the website) looks REALLY good
flew Varig a few times, very good airline….never flew TAM…..only varig and VASP
and yes, i know, they are all Saudia planes……what can i say? Good colour scheme + frequent visits make for great picture opportunities 🙂
and here’s your typical 743/4…one of the things i noticed about this airplane are the unusual engine cowlings….can anyone enlighten me as to why they look “patched up”….normally u might think shabby maintenace or something, but it really wouldnt be like them to let this airplane show up as SV003 being a royal flight….their planes are normally spotless
and here’s yet another SP, this one about to land
