even if they did get that thing airborne the question remains of hitting anything with that 8000lb dumb bomb. when dropped from stratospheric altitude the CEP would be measured in miles.

they said another problem was the heat – perhaps water cooling or even cryogenic solutions can be considered to further increase firing rate? (at the cost of even greater power consumption)… makes me think of battletech lasers and PPCs and heat sinks.

yea been reading abt all these exotic crystal lasers. considering its superiority i wonder why they concentrated on chemical lasers in the first place?

multiple lasers that output to one point and then get focused into one beam remind me of the Death Star.

    Hi
I just wanted to know what missiles are carried by phantom 229 are these the ARMs( predecessors to HARM)?

Also are thes bombs carried by the phnatom in the last pic 750 pounders?

    Thanx in advance

yup those in the first pic are Standard ARMs. not sure abt the bombs tho.

strange tho that those boneyarded (sure looks like a boneyard to me) F-4s still tote weapons — ARMs, bombs, mavericks. i’ll bet the USAF planes at davis-monthan have all been stripped of the stuff. those rusty Standard ARMs are a particularly sorry sight.

talking about the F-35’s weaponry… wasn’t there talk that the F-35 was designed to carry future laser weaponry?
any idea what are the provisions for the anticipated laser weapon? its energy source and power feed? will the laser occupy the GAU-12’s bay, or has space for the laser already been designed into the plane?

do we actually need navigators now with INS and GPS and moving-map displays in almost every modern plane?

A-4s went down like mad in Vietnam — they had to send every plane off the production line to Southeast Asia. i imagine how they would do in the 21st century battlefield.

JDAM/LGBs from F-15Es at 30 or 30000ft (depending on the SAM threat) sound better.

and i would soooo love to see F-111s back and ready for combat. that plane was long-legged, carried lots of bombs and looks b-e-a-utiful!!

the EH101 is 50% more powerful than the other two. the NH90 and S92 can each use 2 RR/Turbomeca RTM 322 engines (also used on the WAH-64), while the EH101 uses 3.

the golden thing covering the front, fixed part of the canopy is opaque, and slightly creased. seems to me a piece of canvas or something to shield the windshield from the elements.

as for the rear part of the canopy… i have to say there’s a hint of gold tint, and it’s see-through so definitely not any sort of canvas or whatever. some kind of film i guess, perhaps indeed for stealth. the chinese claim LO characteristics for the J-10 after all…

but as has been noticed, no other J-10 photo features this tinting. so i) it could be an anomaly/result of digital pic processing, or ii) a testbed of some sort.

thanks for all the info. what’s the status then of the MMW seeker? are they still going ahead with it? i suppose this would be the French equivalent of Brimstone.
