Allow me to speculate a little (don’t shoot, don’t shoot!), but the third from last paragraph, is very interesting, almost disturbing.

Unless its pretty easy for the AAIB to identify the probably causes of the crash, perhaps they’ll make a recommendation along the lines of – fit all aircraft with the purpose of carrying those other than the flight crew/with more than x seats/over xkg MTOW with flight data recorders.

I wonder how much harder it will be for the AAIB to identify the causes – if something was going wrong in the engines (if the transcripts are anything to go by) and there is no ‘computer’ performance data on exactly how the aircraft was performing – it may be harder to discount causes? The fact that little of the aircraft remains, civilians were at risk, and such loss of life, surely must be a reason enough to suggest fitting flight data recorders.

God, you just gotta love the damn media. 😡

The article is misleading – as it suggests the patent is recent, by stating that the patent was published (to be read as ‘filed’) about 3 weeks ago, hence it has its excuse to write a story.

But, the patent is 3 years old! woo hoo! Lets all get excited! 🙁 😡

    lol

Great stuff! Not sure about the weird MS Flight Sim ‘view out of the windows’ though. 🙁

MAN is really dissappointed. Oasis were going to begin flights to the airport in July. Their management team had visited the airport just a few weeks ago, had agreed slots and a terminal of operation at MAN. We were mere millimetres from regaining a Hong Kong service.

Light lasers being shone at aircraft and into cockpits is not an uncommon problem, unfortunately.

Operated as fdx007 on that day.:)

The aircraft came in as FDX007, and went out as FDX033; apparently.

This is not good at all. From the one picture that is available, there is a very large fire at the scene.

Just to clear up any confusion – this is Farnborough, Kent, not the ‘airshow’ Farnborough.

The fact that, as already stated, GB Airways is now easyjet, means that, finally, easyjet now fly from Manchester. That’s a big milestone in itself.

I’ve just got back from the ‘Imperial War Museum North’, in Manchester. One of the exhibits was an enormous wall made out of suitcases. It was designed to represent refugees and how war displaces millions.

There’s a bit of T5 in the IWMN – or rather there a bit of the IWMN in T5?

(the Beeb is now running with the story of the piles of suitcases being created in the terminal)

I would have to agree with Super Nimrod. BA are being perhaps a little too eager to get into everything into their new home as soon as possible having been given the keys.

Having built the thing on time and to budget, something, somewhere had to go….plfff.

EDIT: Check out the BBC video of the protestors who were in the terminal this morning. Couldnt believe my eyes when I saw an airport worker, wearing a T5 uniform and hi vis, join the gaggle of protestors and pose in front of the cameras with them. Cheeky git, would have given him a slap right round the chops. A disciplinary is coming his way for sure.:D :p

You can find out the actual age of the aircraft in the fleet using GINFO (i.e. year built, provided all the aircraft are UK registered) – http://www.caa.co.uk/application.aspx?catid=60&pagetype=65&appid=1

When would be the right time to renew your fleet? Would it be when maintenance costs become too much, or if the reliability of an aircraft goes very poor.

This depends primarily on the strategy that the airline has. There is no right or wrong strategy as such – having said that though, either an airline chooses a strategy that leads to maintained or increased success, or one that causes problems; whether or not the chosen strategy is the best one can moreorless only be determined using hindsight. There are lots and lots of different strategies that airlines can take for fleet renewal.

Anyhoo, the two possibilities that you give i.e. maintenance costs and reliability are both possible strategies, the latter perhaps being a more risky choice. Also bare in mind that every airline will measure these two factors differently.

An airline may choose a strategy that says aircraft will be sold within just a few years of purchasing them – this keeps the airline fleet ‘young’ and ‘modern’. It also ensures that the aircraft will not have lost so much of its value – making it easier to sell them on – newer aircraft are generally far easier to sell than old aircraft that are on their last legs.

This is a strategy adopted widely in the low cost sector; whilst not so widely in the ‘legacy’ sector, because they prefer to try get as much out of the aircraft as possible and don’t worry so much about selling the aircraft on.

Without wanting to give you too much help :diablo: , you are going to want to make sure you explain WHY the opportunity is an opportunity. Try not to be too generic as well, because you could easily take the same opportunity and apply it to every airline under the sun. The same applies for your S.W.T sections.
